No, but I'm curious to try it all - Meat included. The yak thing actually started out that I saw someone post some yaks for sale in portland on Craigslist, so then I thought "wow, you can actually raise yaks like cattle in the US? amazing!" I always knew that my family loved yaks, but never knew it was so easy to find, buy, and raise them. And they're sooo useful! So, we went looking around for a more local breeder and ended up eyeing Elma.
As for the eggs - I'm getting some from some breeders in Michigan, and their hens aren't laying so well yet. (us lucky ducks and our amazingly warm winter!
) One, though, is letting me try out 15 of hers to test the fertility. Her hens are laying now, but the roo isn't doing the best job fertilizing them. So it is basically 15 free with shipping, but who knows how many will actually hatch. Those 15 and 12 more I'm basically waiting to get collected and sent off, starting the 23rd, and should get here a couple days after.
Once those hatch, the rest of their hens should start doing well, and we'll be throwing in a dozen blue/black/splash Jersey Giants, blue/splash Ameraucanas, and BC Marans.
Edit: When the Yaks get older, I'll of course be giving and selling cheese, meat, wool, etc.
