so i have a broody. this morning i found one of the eggs broken... nothing remained except the evidence of the dried yolk. the hen is covered in it and so i am now down to 10 eggs on her and 4 on the bantm.

my question. will the eggs still hatch with some dried yolk on them? i tried to scrape some of the dried stuff off....

on another note. one of the chicks i got i looked at closely. it is a silver laced wyndotte. is its crest supposed to be smooth? never had this breed before. all these other breeds i have have a crest atleast...

is its crest supposed to be smooth

Do you mean comb? Yes, Wyandottes have a rose comb which is really smooth when they are chicks and makes them a bit harder to sex. Watch for it to pinken up and for the wattles to come in. Usually by about 6-8 wks you will be able to tell if boy or girl.

wow, where were the coming from ?
I bought some from little grey bantam (in Kansas) last Monday, she called to say she would ship Friday, and still no sign.
The bad part, is she does not answer any e-mail, or PM's that I send her.
Hope I no one else is having problems with her.
I was waiting to set her eggs with some others I have, but put the others in 8 days ago...and called her to see if she ever mailed them or what ?
Should I set up another bator?
When did she mail them or did she forget ?????
Did she take the money and run ?
She has lots of ads here, and seemed very nice~~~
I got everything to treat the bumblefoot except the nolvason, read the label and it said for inanimate objects, is that the same stuff you used ?

Chickielady , sorry you are dealing with missing eggs too! No, mine are not from her, another seller. I do have a 2nd incubator, and will pop them in there when they arrive (after letting them sit for as long as I can stand it) until they get up to temp. Then I'll put them in with the others until lock down, then move them back into their own bator until the end. IF they ever show up!!!! I still haven't heard from my seller yet either. He's in NY. Maybe the volcano air delay's have caused them to get delayed? But I thought that was just Europe that was affected. Who knows?

I also wanted to tell you a horrible story that ended up OK, but still freaks me out...I was just driving along Hwy 16 heading from Monte to Elma, doing 60...various cars about me and it has a medium of high grasses and weeds...and 2 cars ahead weaved and went on their respective shoulders because a trash bag was rolling around back and forth or so it looked like.
I was in the slow lane, and slowed, and within 100 yds I realized this trash bag blowing back and forth on the highway was a mama duck and about 15 ducklings !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ep.gif
:eek::eek:
Mama was running from the slow lane to the fast lane so I swerved to the right shoulder, braking hard and the cars behind me saw and were locking up their brakes, and mama duck headed for the slow lane, so I swerved to the fast lane, still braking hard, then she headed for the fast lane again, freaking out, her babies crying and running close to her.....
ep.gif
:eek::eek:
So I headed back to the slow lane, and sure enough she went and started for the fast lane again...and by now I am close enough to see their little faces...and I swerved way over onto the shoulder rumble strip, she made it right behind me to the spot I just was, and the cars behind me almost slid to a stop in the fast lane...we were all so realived that they made it, heading now to the Satsop...good greif !
I almost murdered 15 duckings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so upset !!!!
ep.gif
:eek::eek:
So, the moral of the story is:::It is baby Mallard season ! Watch out for small things that look like trash bags blowing around on the road !
Geeze, and here I am always looking out for the elk~~~

you know I have wondered the same thing !
DH and I were just wondering what is going on with perishables, and other items that must be transported by air...like a liver transplant for example ???
But really, why then do these sellers not call or e-mail ?
My seller has even more ads up for eggs for sale, I am wondering, if someone wanted to, they could run an ad and rip off an awful lot of us before we caught on....she is offering some nice eggs for sale.
Hope she isn't hurt, hate to think she is a nice person and I am making her out to be a crook.
But what is going on ?

It is weird, I hate to e-mail her again (I have e-mailed her once, and she called last wed. to tell me she would send the eggs soon....
She has some great results, and she seemed like a really nice person on the phone, I seriously am worried that something bad has happened to little grey bantam (Christine)

Seriously, she was so attentive, and almost an annoyance !
I had a hard time breaking off the conversation, on the phone, a long distance call...and then silence for 8 days?

You'd think she would at least get on line and tell me to booger off~~~~~Crimany, I just wanna know when the eggs were mailed...is that too much ?
I really feel something bad has happened...it can, you know, hope not, but.....ok I will shut up now.

you know what is really bad is that I expected my eggs to show up on Thursday or Friday, then she called and said she would send them Friday so I should get them Monday or Tuesday....at this point, it has been a week since I paid her....ok, I will shut up NOW~~~~~
so what kind of eggs were they that you won, and where were they coming from ? New York ?I wish you the best~

I just got my bees saturday and checked today to see if they had accepted the Queen. Well they must have because she was gone from the cage and the hive is working.

They are already making honey. I kind of cheated I was given frames that had drawn comb on them so my girls had a bit of a head start.

So awesome!

We will check our new hive this weekend to see how they are doing in the new house..

hey--any head start they can get is great!

Question: Do you centrifuge and bottle your own honey, or have someone else jar it up for you ?
If you are going to sell it, I would want to buy some honey, and about 4 quart mason jars of raw honey with a hunk of clean comb in it.
My old folks love the comb, it is one of the few candies they had when they were children.
My aunt Rita grew up in Texas has told me many tales of her and her Daddy working the hives and having 'chewing gum' which was honey comb as a treat on the ranch.
