Hello and welcome! I've only been here about a week myself. I live near Yakima, Wa. I have 15 chickens too and three kids (humans that is). I have been driving my hubby CRAZY talking about chickens so I'm very glad to have found this web site. These are my first chickens too. I have 1 silkie, 4 golden sex link, 3 easter eggers, 4 golden whandottes, and 3 bantie chickens that I really don't know what they are other than two are roos and will soon be dinner!! Glad to know you, Melissa

I know what you mean about the hubs being tired of listening about the chickens! Fortunately I have a very good friend that loves them too, we have been on this venture together and our husbands say we chicken enable eachother! I started out with 13 chicks and I gave her 5 of them, now for whatever reason I have 15 and she has 12!! I don't how that happened??

I am truly addicted to having chickens, what great fun they are and the kids love them too! I am very glad to meet you too Melissa!

What happened is, our husband are right and we do enable each other! lol Glad to "see" you here!

I gave my chickens some tomato today for the first time and they turned velociraptor just like they do with spinach! Crazy little chickens!

Ok, here is the eggs, I have opened the carton and laid one of my Cuckoo (Maryann's) eggs in the cover, on the right, it is large/Jumbo and dark.
Maryann is about 16 months old...I have turned a few of the other eggs sideways for you to see, they are pale and small, and maybe have been scrubbed, they are sooooo clean, and that can remove some color, I just do not know and my brain hurts from thinking, they are 'resting' and will go in the other bator tomorrow, so what do ya think ?
Ask me, they look more like my lt brahma's eggs.

This last picture is of the Blue Splash Marans (madelynbelle) Gig Harbor, they are HUGE!
They are in the bator 8 days now, and are so gorgeous...
OK< see what guesses come up.

Those don't look like lakenvelder eggs. I'd say cuckoo marans. Looks like she marked them CM for cuckoo marans anyway on each egg. Lakenvelders are a creamy white egg. She must have just been reusing a carton...

Cuckoo's aren't as dark as the black maran's, but I agree. I think those are the cuckoo eggs you ordered. Do you know what line her birds come from? Is it possible she just has hatchery birds? They would probably be even lighter than a quality breeder line.

Thanks for the encouraging words everyone.

The feed store finally told me the name of the hatchery soooo, I of course called them 10ish times today trying to talk to someone. All I get is an answering machine. My daughter googled the name and we found out that they are just down in Oregon (not Holderread). It would have been only a 30 minute drive from the show last weekend!

I have had a really bad day. A few of my very close friends have had deaths or near deaths occur in their families that we found out today and then to find out that my ducklings are probably dead wherever they are. I am in utter sadness. I just keep praying that I will get a call to tell me that they are all ok and come get them. '

My main concern is that these eggs are so small !
And freckled, none of my Cuckoos have freckles, and my Cuckoos are large to Jumbo~
She said in her ad on the site that these were Bev Davis line, I think...I will investigate further.
Does that make a difference ?
My Cuckoos are French, from a home breeder, and lay jumbo dark unfreckeled eggs.
My birds have semi-feathered feet and shanks.
Not as fully feathered as my brahmas...but close.
My concern, is if her birds are laying these small eggs, regardless of plumage, they are not what I care to have introducing into my flock.
I want a big French Cuckoo Marans Roo !
50801_3_days_of_cuckoo_maran_eggs.jpg

My Cuckoos have never laid a freckled egg.
And they have never laid an egg so SMALL.
But, I will research it more.
My girls are big, heavy and feather shanks and some feathered feet.
They lay big dark to reddish dark eggs with no spots or freckles.
Never a spot, although there has been some that were darker and some lighter, but consistently large to jumbo size, and no freckles or spots.
The eggs I have gotten are small, and light, and not what she advertised, and the eggs are spotted, freckled and small, like a bantam egg.

I will incubate them, but I doubt if they will ever see my flock of Cuckoos, as #1 the eggs are too small.

Not the old Shanks Hatchery is it ? Cuz those people that just bought the shanks hatchery are the ruddist nastiest ruddist A...OK I better calm down...They are rude. They are eveb rude to the feed stores.
I had a big run in with them when the guy said he would save a 25 box of babies and DH was going to pick them up and a day later the guy did not even aknowledge my name...and treated me like a freakin'....well you know, and he explained to me that they were so busy there was no way he could possibly keep 25 chicks there for me to pick up as they would not have heat nor water...and for 1 day, that is OK...but he said OK and then never answered the phone again.
I will never deal with them again. Shanks was not that good anyway as far as I am concerned, and whoever bought the place is unorganized, and rude.
Elma feed ordered 25 Ply BR for me and when I went to pick them up (at 8 am) the owner ther said no PBR's showed up in the delivery and that there was no explaination other than ""They had a problem with the hatch""""
That spelt trouble to me, you have to have a bad problem to screw up PBR's...so I bought my PBR's elsewhere.
The ones supplying Elma feed were/are Shanks' now owned by someone else who is not near as customer conscious as the old owners were.
I am signing out for the evening, thanks for all your help and another thing::::: 'T' is 'frogchickprincess' ????
So "we"one box of duckies lost or is T and frogchickprincess two different ppl ?????

OK here is my 2 cents worth. The egg in the pictures are in no way lakenvelder eggs. They look a little like my welsummer pullet's eggs, unfortunately I don't have a good picture of those eggs. But if they are Cuckoo Marans they are clearly not very good quality. The 4 nearly white eggs are from Greta the Lakenvelder.

The dark eggs in the pictures are from my Blue Marans hen Floosy, and the eggs in the middle are from the Salmon Faverolles(I am still working on Dutch Names for the girls. They might only get one name though, because I can't tell them apart most of the time.)
hu.gif
The eggs in your picture, look more like the Faverolle's eggs than anything else. The only difference is that my Faverolle's eggs don't have any spots on them. I also agree that she must have scrubbed the eggs before send them. Even if her coop is very clean there will still be traces of poop or something on the eggs. I would so continue to stop payment on the order considering that you didn't get what you ordered. I would also continue to warn other people about her and give her a
smack.gif
So that is my 2 to 6 cents, into the hat.

I bought 6 BC Maran eggs off of E-Bay last night. My Snowball: the white Silkie is now broody, and being the chicken obsessed person that I am, I thought why not?
