Man oh man you have got to post some pictures of that !
My old lab constantly patrols the rabbit area, over the hen house, over to the pullet house, and back, and usually has 2 or 3 hens in the hay bed in her dog house with her !
The most wonderful dog in the world !

That is what I do. I open the door in the morning and leave it open (with a rock) and they go in and out as they please. This morning they went out and then came right back in! They are 8 weeks old, 4 weeks old, and the little 2 week old guys are all out in that coop. The little guys (I mean girls) are not able to fly up to get over and out yet so they are inside all the time still but the other two age groups go in and out all day, even in this wind. These are my first chickens so I don't really "know" to much but they seem just fine to me.

I do this same thing with all pullets/chicks/poults and keats 4-5 weeks of age, I have a heat lamp available, and the little buggers can go out in their secure and bird-net topped run, is 35x40feet, and if they are chilled they come back in, get an expresso, and warm up under the heat lamp

the wind here struck at 9am.... then died at 4pm.... then by 12pm it started raining bears and tigers... then it would snow.

was snowing 30 minutes ago... the snow level is really low...

i nearly blew over in the wind... bf was there to push me.

i was worried my chickens would make like a movie and be gone with the wind.

dad saved the day by putting tires on the roofing of the coop (never framed or drilled the sheet metal for the coop)

i think we got record rain today...

We are on a mountaintop near Mt. St. Helen's, and it is snowing right now! Big fat flakes. Amazing for May. We had very strong gusty winds this morning and periodic downpours and sunbreaks in Vancouver today.

My goats and chickens are snug as a bug in our enclosures for them, but I have new ducklings only six weeks old that I just moved outside a week or so ago, and now they are in the snow. They have a little house but they didn't like it and prefered to huddle together under half a dog crate that was out there. So that is what they are under right now! They are too big for the brooder now so I can't possibly bring them back in tonight, so I sure hope they do okay! They are acting like they like it, but what do ducklings know?

Its been windy here on and off and the rain on and off.
But I got my banty Welsummers today, they are so cute

I will get a few pics of the 30x40 run, with welded wire, and over that 32" of plastic 1" fencing so the wee babes cannot get out and wire folded over on the ground along the outside of the fence so nothing short of a bear can dig under and full bird net over.
But you can see how they can go out, and come in and warm themselves...the espresso machine is just out of site on the far left....
