Just candled everyone in the 'bator. 7 turkey eggs and 5 common everyday barnyard chickens (read: mutts).

1 clear (chicken)
2..not sure, (1 turkey 1 chicken)

9, definitely viable. And kicking. First thing that made me smile all day.

Lockdown a week from Saturday

Tomorrow I get to meet Snipes, who hopefully will NOT be bringing scary bugs, transporting the remainder of Weave's flock up to Seattle, where they will come reside at Naughty Chickens farm for the rest of their days -or- till WG can get them back.

Don't forget about Naughty Chickens Farm first annual pig roast and potluck, Saturday June 12 from 5pm-whenever. PM me for details. Kids welcome, BYOB, and I would highly recommend a lawn chair. Tenting over is welcome as well, as long as you don't mind a rooster in your ear at 5am.

drunkdog - I know there are people around that have silkies, unfortunately can't recall any offhand

perhaps ask at some of the feed stores in the area if they know if anyone?

Q: How does a Scottish collie do with all this rain ?
Seems like a Scottish Collie would stay wet so much that it could grow moss...a moving vegetable patch, probably not good for their skin ?

I'M SO EXCITED!!!!!

JessicaRabbit and I are getting a dozen blue and black true Amerauna eggs on Sat.!! Along with a dozen Wheaten and Blue Wheaten Bev Davis line Marans hatching eggs!!!!

I also stumbled upon a Bev Davis French Wheaten Marans Roo for my French Wheaten Marans hen (Kevin)

I can't wait til Sat.!!!! Even the hubs is excited about all of this, I am so thankful for that!! It makes it more fun when he is on board!! But the funnest part of all of this is my two very closest friends in the world (JessicaRabbit and NwChicks) are on this wonderful journey with me, I feel so lucky!!!! I can't wait to see the babies hatch!!

But, here is the thing :
1) The dog must be able to live outside, in winter, they can board in the barn.
2) must be big, intimadating, protective, mellow (not hyper and chase birds out of 'pent up energy')
3)Smart, not needing 4 years of 24/7 training just to housebreak !
4)I am looking at at least 2 dogs, and that does not have to be the same breed, 1 'ratter' and 1 herd/flock guradian would be the best...like 1 Hungarian Kuvous, and 1 ratter-type dog...Or 1 Newfoundland

and 1 weanie dog...ideal would be 2 Newfies to keep each other company...and a weaner to catch rats...
Keep giving me ideas everyone !

My skovies finally hatched!!!!! I have six right now. Mama got off the nest before they all hatched. Luckily we had two hens go broody the day before. So DH split the eggs between the two of them and two more babies are hatching!!

The guy who wanted my rabbit hutches has not turned up, so if you are still interested, PM me.
I believe I am going to look for a Newfie, or Pyrenese...gentle giants.
Last time I looked or was around these beauties...I fell in love, they are so protective and watchful, and big enough that they do not pose a big threat to others as they are a little slow....mellow, thoughtful dogs...not a dog physically capable of chasing, attacking chickens..and capable of learning when they are pups what is to be protected and what is not.
Inputs needed here...and remember we are planning to get hair goats next year~

Chickielady have you looked at the Bouvier DesFlandres ...We had one for 13 years that not only herded everything including the neighbors kids but never chased anything or even let anyhting get to him until "daddy" said it was ok to .....they are a large breed cattle dog long hair and cold weather friendly....

Chickielady~ we are both incubating them, splitting them up and then waiting to see our babies hatch!!

and We are hoping they are healthy, they are from Cree Farms, we are driving out to meet her in Kingston Sat morning

SOOO VERY EXCITED!!!! Maybe you could lead us in your master ways of hatching during this process

I think we are so tired of getting sick birds that it's time try this ourselves!! So here we go, new chapter of this awesome venture!!

By the way the roo is still hangin on but he still isn't doing any better.
