Hello fellow Washingtonians

I have 2 week old chicks, and I've been reading there is quite a bit of Marek's in our area. Do you vaccinate? I bought feed store chicks, and I'm not sure if they were vaccinated at the hatchery. I'll call and ask, but I wasn't real impressed with the knowledge base of the workers--well, they were all high-schoolers it seemed.

I vaccinate all the chicks I hatch now, usually in 2 batches. It is NOT necessary to vaccinate only at 1 day old. You can do it anytime but, of course, if the bird has already been exposed to Marek's, it will not be protective. After I vaccinated last year, I lost only chicks that I had purchased (unvaccinated) to Marek's. Now I do any new birds with the chick batch.
