Oh Im so sorry.

So Iknow when it rains and the weather is like this for the goats worms are all having a party. So Im thinking all the bad things for chickens are also out there having a party and this is some of whats going on out there. Does that make since? It does to me, this is why I have the rain and the warm weather..

I was planning on coming, but we had an incident today with a very beloved BCM of ours dying. I have been dealing with this most of the day today

We were really trying to come tonight but it just wasn't happening after all of the drama. Are we still invited to come to a monthly poultry group meeting?

I was just checking on the hatching eggs under my silkie, and noticed there were little creepy crawlie mite things -- tiny tiny tiny -- on the egg that is pipping!! WHAT are these?? I immediately got a clean box, that I had dusted with DE, treated the silkie with frontline, treated the rest of the bedding around the nest box with DE and am crossing fingers... I am glad silkies are rock solid setters, she just hunkered right back down to the serious business of hatching..
but GA-ROSS.. is the little pipping egg gonna be alright??? i hate to bother them anymore, but I am warming up the incubator 'just in case'...

thanks in advance for any feedback!!

So sorry my friend. Mine's still hanging in there but barely. DH is going to check her in the morning for me. I can't handle another one dying right in my hands.

sorta helped i guess...Thank you for posting it! i am worried about the hatching chick and the chick that has already hatched. I JUST treated everyone with Ivermectin too.. and have a dust bath available for everyone that has powder in it.. AND I am really careful about keeping houses cleaned and treated. Bugs -- the creepy crawlie blood sucking kind -- are just gross, and I hate for my flock to have them...

I will check the nest in the AM and make sure all crawling has stopped. blech. Part of a free range flock-- wild birds come into the yard too I guess right?

So sorry for everyones losses. My experience has been that sooner or later at least a couple of birds will die. It is the hardest part about keeping a flock. I am wish you happy thoughts about the bugs, and I hope it was just one, and that you got it.

I got the coop cleaned out today. The girls were helping me spread the straw around. It was really cute watching them scratching the straw around in the coop. It was a bit like cooking dinner with 6 Yorkies underfoot. (Beef Stew)

I have never had the hens so involved with cleaning the coop.

I had to be really careful about stepping back so that I didn't step one of the hens. The Faverolles are really personable and involved with the coop cleaning.

some Pellet guns can be deadly too and can shoot as far as a .22 so be careful. Also horses are a good watch dog....but if you are possibly looking for yet another critter to add to your farm....Llamas are suppose to be really good watch dogs or a mule. I have heard of people using them in heards of sheep for protection. Good luck. Scary you have so many 'yotes. Might try a light that comes on with movement? might be a bit of a deterent.

And the RAIN keeps coming.....My side of the mountains is suppose to be more desert-like. Although I heard that the west side is going to get some 3 inches of rain....that is crazy.....we are talking 1/2 inch here today. The Lil' Girls still wanted out and after I let them out of the coop all 14 kids ran to the run door to be let out into the yard. If we don't let them out....they go running to the door/gate everytime they see or hear us in the backyard.

You ladies on the West side try to stay dry...may want to get your "girls" some golashes (spelling?) (rubber boots), sounds like you are going to be getting lots of rain. I was actually getting concerned about all the rain possibly killing the "tweety" birds nesting in my giant willow tree, but mommas and babies have been at the bird feeder....so I guess they have been doing okay.
