I know this isnt chicken related but after reading everyones posts for months on end and learning from others questions and answers I feel like I can ask this... , we got some sad news about our little brat terrier Dottie from the vet the other day. She said that Dottie has a heart murmur. My daughter is worried that shes going to die, and shes upset that we cant breed her (we have 6 responsible people that would love to have a puppy) the vet was also saying that having her spayed could be a problem but in the same breathe she also said her chances of having uterus cancer or something like that is possible because she isnt spayed.....We wont be breeding her but I dont know what to do about the whole spaying thing...I thought I would ask anyone here if they have had this situation or know someone that has and what could we be expecting in the future with our Dottie...???

Brat terrier - love it.. I would NOT breed her. why does she have a heart murmur? I have Poms (acquired did not breed them) and they have had heart murmurs, unfortunately, this probably my fault as I did not stay on top of a dental program and dental infections had lead to heart problems, so I take responsibility for this. Or is it possibly genetic...you don't want to pass this on...We lost our 15 year-old Pom last year - it was either the heart failure or the kidney failure that was going to take him....and it was the kidneys that finally won out and he passed from Kidney failure. I now have a diabetic pom (has to have 2 shots a day) who also has Congestive heart failure. Talk to your vet - if you are not comfortable with the vet's answers - get a second opinion, read on the internet. Find out WHY she has a heart murmur. If you have 6 responsible people who would love a puppy - send them the address of a "brat terrior rescue" group. Regarding spay vs no-spay - ask around and research on the internet.

Depending on why Dottie has this condition - she can still live a nice life. My dog has CHF (congestive heart failure), she is not yet on medication yet for this...but with the history of Tonka (we lost last year) I know that she will soon be on it...right now Brandi is on Insulin and this is enough. My Brandi has a deep throaty cough at times, this is because the heart is not pumping correctly and she has a tendency to retail fluids (even in her lungs) and she coughs because of it. Brandi is now 14 years old, we hope to have her around for a few more years.

Let us know how it goes. This thread - these people - are great and we all care.

I'm in Amboy, Washington and have Buff Orpingtons, RIR and two Russian Orloffs. I also have three dairy goats and 17 ducklings, muscovy and cayuga.

I'm actually posting today because of the muscovy. They are 11 weeks now and we have more than we need. We ordered these from J.M. Hatchery and they are the domestic variety, white. We have at least two males that I would love to barter with anyone around here that might have:

Working incubator in good condition.

A young Aracana laying hen.

A young Maran laying hen.

fencing, gates

Use of a pygmy, nigerian dwarf or mini nubian stud this fall.

I read this thread regularly, but I guess I'm a "lurker" because I rarely post! I hope it is okay to post this here, I know there a lot of BYC people here in my area!

Carmen is fine. She's the same size as the others. My littler one is an Amercauna who seems to be a few weeks younger. The flock hasn't accepted Ginger into the group yet. They're not really picking on her. They're just giving her the cold shoulder. I suspect that when I bring some, but not all of the flock here, that should shake things up considerably.

OMG!!!!!!!!! Friday ?!?! Why is he taking a whole week ????? I would be really upset !
Will your pullet be OK ?
Maybe you can keep her seperate like in a little dog crate ??

I've been checking on her most days. She seems to be doing okay. The waiting is hard, but what can I do?

If that dude doesn't lay a coop by this Friday, maybe the Rustler, the White Eggs Guy, and I will have to go on a re-con mission for you.

We might be for hire if necessary. (Say Chickens) Of course I'll have to talk the guys into it. Oh wait I was driving last time and after we left that corner like we did that last time, I think they were just a bit upset at my driving.

I still think it was that smoke they were blowing.

Tell that guy that the group is gettin peeved at him, and we might just have to break out the Weave, and then we just don't know what could happen. ( Maybe frozen capons at dawn)
