I introduced mine to yogurt today. They also loved it. Of my four girls, Roz is always the first to try anything new. She's very curious. Do you have any clover? My girls adore it. It's the first thing they look for in the morning. When I move the tractor, there isn't a leaf left.

There is quite a bit of clover in my backyard and they get to free range as much as I am here to watch over them...mainly to protect my garden. They just go around and graze. The yogurt is funny isn't it?

Well, to inform any of you who had been interested in rearing grouse for the release by the FWD in WA, here is the return e-mail sent to me, apparently they are catching wold birds in ID and just releasing them in E WA...bummer !
I thought it would be so awesome to hatch/raise/release and maybe get paid to do so....

Here is what he said:

We are not doing any captive breeding; augmentation of local populations and reintroductions are done with birds captured in Idaho or BC. Captive bred grouse generally don’t do very well. Thanks for your interest.

The poultry addiction continues! I just picked up 4 Blue Swedish ducklings and 3 Black Silkie chicks yesterday.

Came home and found one of our Khaki Campbell ducks sitting on a nest of over 20 eggs. We've got her tucked away in a protective pen, but odds aren't very good she'll finish brooding them so I'm beating the bushes trying to borrow an incubator from someone local.

My poor husband has been out back improving the structural integrity of our rabbit enclosure (Bunhalla) so I can turn the West Wing (get it?) into more pens for our pullets.

Me? I'm lying on the sofa with my broken foot up.

I just moved back into the country for the most part to get away from the disrespectful neighbors we had before who decided one day to raise chihuahuas...and of course the yapped and snarled at our fence where we had our $20K koi pond and Zen patio for privacy...waterfall and all.
Needless to say I wanted to kill them and they all figured they had every right to have 24/7 yappy little dogs running up and down the mutual fence.
Then they installed a jungle gym 2 feet away from the fence as well....and then she decided to have 4-6 toddlers in daily as day care....
all this and we cannot have a rooster ????????????????????????
Or even hens in some cases ?
Their poo is no where near as offensive as that of 5 rottwielers in a city backyard !!!

My heart goes out to all you farmers stuck in the city !!!

It was absolutely beautiful, got alot of 12"-16" rainbows, and it was COLD !!!
I thought it had been cold here but it is really really cold up your way and kids are still swimming and playing in 45 degree water with a 40 mph wind blowing...I was shivering.........

The kids had field day at the school yesterday too and I helped with that. It was a lot colder than it had been the previous couple days! I wore capris and a t-shirt. I wished I'd have worn jeans and a sweatshirt! The sun did come out a few times, though

It has been so cold and windy here...my Dad told me today (in Elma) his tomatoe plants had mold on them in the green house....too much humidity, and this is also playing awful with our hatches and diseases of all types.
The massive ancient apricot tree in his front yard is dying (branch die-off also called dead arm) I am sure it is killing alot of grape vines as well, and take notice here everyone:
If you use hay...get it fast and stock up cuz it will be hard to find and very expensive very soon.
No one has been able to bale here, most are putting up silage instead.
I do not think we will have too much of a summer, just this, and the thought of this weather plus the earth tipping (increase the cold) is scarey, think of the snow we will have !!!!!
Has anyone seen weather predictions yet ?

As soon as I hear back from them I will tell all, I am sort of afraid of the answer because we kind of already know what it is but I am not at liberty to disclose any information until the results come back. It should be Monday they said maybe even Friday, so we shall see
