What pretty babies you all have! I have to live vicariously through all of you since my DH will ban be to the chicken coop if I even think about hatching out chicks. Much as I love my girls, I like him better.

He has taken to calling me a "Chicken Voyeur" since I'm always ogling them on here and whenever we drive around. I've made him slow down so I can look in yards and ogle their chickens.

Could you trim their flight feathers?

I probably could and will trim feathers. I just have never been able to do a very good job of this. They have a 8 x 40 ft run of their own, i just like to let them free range in the yard and it still has certain parts of the fence that has not been changed and is only 4 ft high. The new fence is either 5 or 6 ft high, depending on where it is. I have never been good at trimming wings....I just wish they would behave and be happy with the 1/2 acre I have fenced in for them. Either clip wings or I will just let them out when I can baby sit really-really well. They would hate not being able to be let out.

I dread having to clip the girls' wings. So far it hasn't been necessary. I hope it never is.

Oh my gosh its never a dull day here, Im trying to get everything done here. Dont know if I told all of you but had to take my husband to the hospital on Sat. He was cutting a small trim for the chicken coop and the wood went into where the blade was (tablesaw) and yep lucky he has his thumb.

I haven't had anyone even question sending me eggs from elsewhere in the country. It would be a rare shipper that actually looked into the laws concerning shipping eggs. Most people don't even think about it. IMO

Hey all. Just thought I would check in with the forum! Been too long! We are getting ready to add another bird to our flock. Seems our Buff Orpington may be eating the eggs, but definately went broody a second time after laying just 5 eggs since her last brood. Now she is as mean as stink, and like I said she may be eating the other hen's eggs. So... not sure what to do there!

I got a great Father's day gift from my parents, a book called "Backyard Homestead" - giving helpful hints on how to fully harvest all your food on a quarter acre or less. So DW was able to be convinced that our Mature Fig, Pear, and Cherry trees were in need of some company (apples, plums, walnuts... and a Riesling vinyard on the side of the house... possibly a small blueberry field on the sunny hillside). Needless to say, I am really enjoying the chickens I got from Tam (thanks), and hoping to take my backyard farming to the next level by the end of this year... looking forward to next year's harvests

- Now I just need a good nursery on the Kitsap Peninsula...

Anyway - i was hoping to hear something from Illia about getting some Easter Eggers, or a colorful and calm mature egg laying hen... If I cannot connect with her out in Forks, is there anyone in the area willing to sell a mature blue/green egg layer (should be friendly - I have a two year old).

Hope everyone is enjoying the 'summer'... I'm sure the sun is out there... somewhere!

You are nothing but an angel that loves animals, and the wonderful compassionate heart you have is the biggest reason that you love him, and so the biggest reason you love him, is that compassion.....get rid of the compassion and :::::

I guess the point I am trying to make is that the reason YOU love him is the same reason you love your birds, there is a few differences involved, but the love and compassion for animals is the whole ball game.
Go move in with a freak that sets cats on fire (for fun !) and see what kind of life you have....my point is made~~~~~~
