Hello All Washingtonians!

I'm Tara and I'm in Snohomish, WA a little East of Everett, WA. I'm trying to find someone local who may have or know how to get Black & Blue Orpington Chicks or fertile Eggs locally.

we currently have a mixed flock including, Red Star, Buff Orps, Frizzles, and Rhode Island Mixes. But I'd love to have a Blue/Black Orp flock separately, my favorite chicken ever are the Buff Orps, but would love to have some other pretty colors.

Thanks for letting me join, jump in on your chat.
Tara

Hi all Washingtonians,

We live in the Key Peninsula, in Lakebay specifically, it south of Seattle, and across Tacoma over the Tacoma's narrow bridge from Gig Harbor. It is lovely to belong to such a huge group of chicken hobbyists from the same state. So cool to have a strong support group here for Newbies like us. Living out in the country here gives us so much freedom to do as we wish with regards to keeping chickens and building them a nice big coop. We love it here.

Will it need to be alive or will a stuffed one be okay?

Wait the live one while she'll be madder than a wet hen, will have a bigger impact on your family.

For roo pie you wouldn't need to pluck the guy. All you need to do is take his jammies off.

This is why DH and I just skinned the birds rather than go to all the work of plucking. I wish we had plucked a few of them for roasted French Rooster, but skinned and de-boned is the way to go.

We're going to do meat birds next spring but we have a friend who has one of those whiz bang style chicken pluckers that he'll let us borrow. Otherwise, DH had mandated stripping them. I'm so glad we won't lose the skin since it makes much better stock. If you've never seen one of those just google "chicken plucker" and there are a bunch of you tube videos.

Are you English by chance ????

If that was directed at me, no, not me. DH was born in England but moved here as a babe, but the Inlaws still speak with a British accent so I guess it 's worn off on me a bit!

Hi Tara! I'm Tamara and live south of Monroe. I am getting lavender and Black (and maybe some blue & splash) Orpington Chicks at the end of this month from a breeder down in Vancouver, WA. Her stock is AMAZING! Her ID here is "Backyard Farm" if you want to contact her or if you can wait until next spring, hopefully I'll have eggs available. Her lavs come from Hinkjc's project and her Blue/Black/Splash come from Bamachickens line, both also member's here if you want to look them all up to see their photo's.

To all the other WA Noobies!!!!

ok, is everyone so against plucking by hand? my x mother in law and I would race to see who could pluck em quicker....lol sticky wet feathers everywhere but if you are only doing a bird for dinner then its no worries....pot of boiling water and five minutes time and you'll have a nice clean YUMMY bird

anyone else on here like feet? lol sounds odd but when I lived in Mexico we ate the ENTIRE bird, no waste..... feet are interesting and if done right QUITE tasty... kinda tastes like a cornish wing that has been a crisped
