Hello Everyone,

My Mom has decided it would be fun to hatch quails and chickens.
We went through the breeds and found that Araucana, Wyandotte or Barred Rocks would fit our requirements. Personally I love the blue/green eggs so the final choice was araucana's.
But we are having the hardest time finding Araucana Eggs locally to hatch. We want to have 5-6 chickens in our coop for egg production so we thought to find a dozen fertile eggs for the incubator.
Does anyone in the Seattle area have fertile Araucana eggs? or Barred Rocks or Wyandottes? Its getting so late in the season I'm beginning to think I might have to wait until next year.

I also wondered if anyone would be interested in quail chicks? We have a batch in the incubator that will hatch in about 10 days.

Currently owner of 1 Leghorn hen and 1 Buff Orpington Rooster (he has not made much noise yet but might be up for trade to a farm if he starts crowing loudly)

This is why DH and I just skinned the birds rather than go to all the work of plucking. I wish we had plucked a few of them for roasted French Rooster, but skinned and de-boned is the way to go.

Then we tack the hide to a cardboard, spread with big quilt pins, salt and borax and dry the skin (feathers down) so that it cures, when dry, the feathers are used for fly-tying.
Usually I only dry the neck and saddle hackle, and the Guineas feathers are highly prized too.
