OMG!!!
You would not believe what a big baby your Golden Cuckooroo is !
He cries when he sees another bird, he cries when he sees me, I end up having him in a seperate dog crate, and I walk around holding him, and he snuggles up under my chin, grabs a piece of throat skin (chicken hickie )
And goes to sleep and is very upset when I return him to his crate.
Did you or your kids spoil this baby roo by any chance ?

No! We really didn't baby him I PROMISE!!! But, he was in a group of 7 hatch mates and 6 are Boys, so I think he must have just been afraid of all the others!!! LOL!
Too Cute though. Glad you like him. But, feel free to do what you need to do with him as I read you now have more roos!

I was a Peace Corps volunteer. PCVs do things like that.

Where were you a volunteer? My Dad was in one of the first groups to Nigeria in the early 60's. Than later in the 80's worked for them again as an assistant director or something in that capacity. He worked on and off for them and USAID for the next 20 yrs. He worked in lots of different countries in Southern Africa and the South Pacific. Luckily I got to visit him in a lot of strange places and that was very cool!​

Tamara, we adore your funny cuckooroo...he actually knows his name now.
I did not really like the others...But keeping 1 and giving away another nice one should someone want him...and so we will have 2 roos over the girls.
Incidently, your cuckooroo is getting loads of gold, too...were the others always gold ?

I was in Korea in '77, '78, '79. I was there for Park's assassination, and Chun's coup d'etat. It was interesting to say the least. I think everyone should live abroad for a year or two. It broadens the mind. Not only does one learn about another culture, but one see's how very differently others see us.

Glad you like him! I have no idea what he'll turn out like. I wanted Golden Cuckoo Maran's, and apparantly they don't breed true. Until recently, he had NO gold in him, but I could see it was starting to creep in here in there when we gave him to you. Apparantly they often will throw plain Cuckoo or Sports (I haven't figured out what a "sport" is yet). So I have no idea what he will give you. But the Golden Cuckoo Maran roo's are gorgeous, so if he does end up looking like them, you are in for a treat. I don't actually have any, and am hoping one day Nivtup here will have some he's ready to share. Cuckoo roo was the only one to hatch from "pure" Golden Cuckoo eggs. The two I have kept, were project birds where the breeder crossed FBCM with Golden Cuckoo. Here's a pic of a Golden Cuckoo Maran just for fun! Not mine, just borrowing. You'll have to send me a pic after he's fully feathered out!

Hallerlake, I still need to find a time for you to come out. Maybe not this weekend but next? Then the wyandottes may even be laying! Our SLW has been singing the egg song!

Btw the leghorn and buff orpington roo (who was supposed to be a hen) were given to me as the owner could not keep them and well i really like eggs to eat. But they will not be part of my permanent flock since I would like to keep a pure single breed flock.
