I'm also in western Washington. Older houses often have basements. My house was built in 1916. I plan on spending as much of this hot day as possible in my nice, cool, finished basement. Because of the hilly nature of western Washington, a lot of house have daylight basements; open on the down slope side, underground on the up slope side.

Urgent--Beautiful Young Rooster Needs New Home!

Hello, All!
If you would like to be the proud owner of a gorgeous White Crested Black Polish rooster, please let me know right away. Unfortunately, our baby has just found his voice in the last few days. Although we don't live in an area where chickens are illegal, we do live in a residential area and I don't think my neighbors will appreciate the extra noise. We got him as a week-old chick in April this year and we are very disappointed to have to let him go. He is still skittish around our hens but his confidence is growing and they are just now beginning to accept him. He is great around me and my two little boys.
We would be able to deliver him to you if you live on or near the Kitsap Peninsula . If you or anybody you know might be interested in giving this guy a new home (no stew pots, please!!), send me an email or PM and I will contact you ASAP.
Here are some pics (the Wyandottes are not available).

We consider them Pets with Perks (eggs). They are definitely pets first though. They do like their scrambled eggs and the occasional oatmeal I make for them.

Well, thanks so much for tthe inforation on fart eggs. Now I won't be surprised as a first time chicken owner, or do they own me, when we start laying later. They are only about two weeks old right now. All 22 of the little bundles of joy. My goodness they can create a lot of chicken poop!!!

Well today my 9 yod and I sat in the yard and fed some "dill pickle potatoe chips" to the girls.

I didn't think they would eat it, but they did....sheesh, gluttens. Then we took them out some left over chinese...they really like the noodles...must be because they look like worms.

The Hatchathon continues!

Several ladies are brooding:

RIR (slight possibility our Splash Cochin got to her, instead of the Rhodie roo)

Khaki Campbell ducks, won't be sure of sire until they hatch.

Runner, won't be sure of sire until they hatch.
