Your such a good chicken momma! I hope your hen improves. Its always so upsetting when something happens to one of the flock.

So I want to worm my remaining 5 chickens, what should I use? And should I worm them lightly at first, just in case, or should I give them a full dose?

Thanks!

I use Wazine every 30 days for 3 doses...then alot of ppl recommend Ivermectin...expensive for a bottle and it lasts forever...see if you can 'buy' some from someone as a bottle is tons of dosages...and really expensive.
I also dust the feed with DE, and provide the DE dust bath.
There has been no improvement in my ill Lt Brahma hen...she just stands with eyes closed...she will awaken and walk about if bumped...guess we do some more syringe food and water.

So are you eating the eggs, even though you are treating for worms with Wazine every 30 days?

One week after the bald eagle attack, Roz is doing very well. It turns out she only lost a couple of quarter sized patches of skin along with her back feathers. There's no sign of infection. I have her outside next to the run in a dog crate. She eats better if she's near the other girls. They seem happier when she's near, too. She goes back into the wine closet at night. I'm using the blu-kote. I'm wondering when I can let her go back in with the others. I may let them out this evening for some supervised free ranging. I'll see how they do together.

I am not sure how the neighbors could prove it wasn't the same Roo.

Yeah so far my roo has not crowed in the "kill that rooster!" hours so he's good for awhile but he's a buff Orpington roo (very pretty guy) I got for free and I want to have a flock of one breed and orpington's were not one of my choices.. hrmm maybe i can swap in secret as the neighbors know i have a roo but have not seen him yet lol. I'm hoping to find a quiet Araucana roo but have not found a quiet guy yet.

You want to trade Fabio! I know my son called him Clucky, but he'll always be Fabio to me. Will you trade the leghorns as well?

Yay! Yah! Woo hoo!

Just be cautious, esp during closing hours. We lost Mary, one of our EE's 2 weeks to the night she got attacked (by a raccoon?). In part it was because the other girls weren't so sure about her going into the coop & in part that she had been used to having us bring her into the garage. Our best guess is that her cries got the attention of her predator.

Not to mention the amount of $ it took for the vet to finish the amputation from the first attack.

So happy for Roz!

If anyone wants a Light Sussex roo--let me know...he's VERY sweet and I was going to sell him as show bird but now he's gimpy--so I can't. I'm 99.99% sure it's an injury from getting the snot knocked out of him by the larger roo in that pen. I am trying to avoid eating him because he's such a gorgeous & well-mannered bird....

Doh! Yes I have him and the leghorns and they are great! but I will slowly exchange birds for Araucanas to create a pure Araucana flock so I can breed and raise chicks for sale as well as eggs to eat.

He is learning to crow and kinda sounds weird like he's copying my goats lol
He and the girls have a happy home until he learns to crown and wake the neighbors. Then I will find another home for him.
I got a lot of scrap wood so now I'm making a larger coop! and I was able to get 5 baby girls to add to the flock. They are only 4 weeks old at this time so still in the brooder.

Oh, did rainwolf take your son's chickens?! How nice!

My son decided his experiment had failed. My coop is at capacity, so Rainwolf has his chickens.
