Good Morning to all and welcome to all the newbies !
welcome-byc.gif

It sounds like we are getting 3 or 4 newbies a week now !
Cool !
Anyone find any articles anywhere on WHY and WHAT CAUSED the salmonella outbreak back east with all those eggs ?
I have a theory:
The wash the eggs, and muct not have had sufficient disenfectant in the wash water and so ended up washing bacteria(poo) into the eggs instead of killing the bacteria.....anyone else have a theory ?
I think it would be super cool for us to learn what happened to this facility to contaminate all those eggs for waht seems like days of production...so we do not do the same !
Although we practically wallow in the chicken manure (and dog, cat, rabbit and other poop) it builds our immunal systems, nontheless, what caused all those eggs to become contaminated !?!?
Inquiring minds wann know about the poopy evil stiny dogs AND the contaminated eggs...
Why hasn't Greg given us a newsclipping yet ???

He always keeps us educated...

I never did find what they rolled in. It was all of the nasty stinky little dogs that rolled in it, as in all 5 of them in the end. At least Big Dog didn't. It makes me think that maybe something was under the shed. Big Dog does need a bath real bad though. He is itchy, and is starting to dig clumps of fur out. He has a lot of hair too.

He has an appointment tomorrow with the dog doctor. He loves his dog doctor. lol Puppy has his thing down pat these days. He gets out of the car and either pees or poops
sickbyc.gif
on the lawn, then goes racing into the vets office and greets the girls

, he then races down the hall and jumps on the scale

and see how fast we can check his weight. He knows how to sit very well; he just doesn't have a sit.

he then pops himself into the room and then he decides that he may not want to wait in that small room with just mom, and nobody else to pay attention to him. Finally the Dog Doctor comes in and they greet each other and he gets his shot, and he is one happy dog. We then leave the vets office and drive down the road to the feed store in Buckley, WA he then get to check out the store and greet all the kids that work at the store, and finally he picks out a treat. We then can head home. Within a day or two he is no longer all itchy, and he is one happy dog.

With the bathroom now having a walk in shower, it will be some much easier to wash this big ole dog. I just need to find the energy to to do it now.

That is a rather pathetic ending to what should have been a rather gross ending. Sorry everyone.

Good Morning !

I was in bed for at least about 4 hours, but I don't think I did much more than keep my eyes closed. My brain just wouldn't shut down. I can't even say that I am worrying about anything. This happens every few months, I should sleep really well tonight.

Greg posted this originally on page 1168, but here it is again.

CL. One thought comes to mind on this subject. When is the last time you heard about this happening from someone who sells like 8 dozen eggs a month or something like that? From my memory these outbreaks normally happen with huge farms. Yet the government wants to control us little guys when if they had any common sense and knew history back when people bought or grew most of their own food if someone got sick from food they bought from a farm the market place would naturally handle that.
Either they'd go out of business or they'd get their reputation back as time went on.
We didn't need the government to tell us everything is OK now.
That is what they want. A bunch of sheep who listen and do what ever they say to control us.

Here you go.....................

A food safety expert at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., said the source of the outbreak could be rodents, shipments of contaminated hens, or tainted feed. Microbiology professor Patrick McDonough said he was not surprised to hear about two recalls involving different egg companies, because in other outbreaks there have also been multiple sources.

Both plants could have a rodent problem, or both plants could have gotten hens that were already infected, or feed that was contaminated.

"You need biosecurity of the hen house, you want a rodent control program and you want to have hens put into that environment that are salmonella free," McDonough said.

The salmonella bacteria is not passed from hen to hen, but usually from rodent droppings to chickens, he added. This strain of bacteria is found inside a chicken's ovaries, and gets inside an egg.

CDC officials said Thursday that the number of illnesses related to the outbreak is expected to grow. That's because illnesses occurring after mid-July may not be reported yet, said Dr. Christopher Braden, an epidemiologist with the federal Centers for Disease Control.

Almost 2,000 illnesses from the strain of salmonella linked to both recalls were reported between May and July, almost 1,300 more than usual, Braden said. No deaths have been reported. The CDC is continuing to receive information from state health departments as people report their illnesses.

The most common symptoms of salmonella are diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever within eight hours to 72 hours of eating a contaminated product. It can be life-threatening, especially to those with weakened immune systems.

The form of salmonella tied to the outbreak can be passed from chickens that appear healthy. And it grows inside eggs, not just on the shell, Braden noted.

They do pack a lot into it, don't they? It's a nice size fair, not too big where you can't find half the stuff, but not too tiny either. They are going to have some good performers this year! Check them out! Howie Mandell one night, is it Lifehouse another night. Good stuff!

LOL I love my my line of work. Its physically demanding, very dirty, sometimes hazordouse, "sp?" and NEVER boring! Besides, I'de much rather be doing what I do that standing behind a cash register again... Before I had Chloe, I worked for the Suquamish tribe, and lets just say, they don't treat they're non-native employees well. When I went on medical/maturnity leave, they fired me without any explenation. I wasn't exactly happy with that job any how.
