Hey Silkiechicken;
I would love to get one of your black silkie hens.
Let me know if you will be home on the weekends and I could come over by ferry and meet you and your "girls".

Thanks for responding so quickly - I on the other hand finally got my husband off my computer so I could check the forum - This gets addicting!!

Featherfoot,

I am actually only home on weekends so that works out. Both girls on the nest are sisters so they are about the same conformationally and equally nutty with this egg sitting thing. Maybe with a new home ,one will finally give up for a bit and fatten up again before hunkering down on a nest again! Since they've been sitting for a whole month now... they are kind of skinny. I wish they would just stop!!! Which ferry would you be going to? I live "just up the road" from the mukilteo ferry if there is a line that comes up this way. It would be great to just deal with one broody since I think they just keep encouraging each other! Sent you a PM with more of my info.

I'll be walking in the March of Dimes walkathon this Saturday until 10:30. I will catch the next ferry from Kingston (around noon) and call you asap when I get to Edmonds. Can't wait to see you!

Welcome Robin!!
I just joined a few days ago and already I have learned a lot. And it is really nice to find people close by that share our love of chickens.
Talk to you soon and glad to have another Kitsap County member.

Hi Silkiechicken;
It was fun meeting you too, especially in all that snow you had at your house. It's also nice to know you are as gracious and fun in person as you are on the forum. Your place has a great "Chicken history" also.
Thanks for the little silkie, she is settling in with my other hens and has been out for her first stroll around the pasture running from tree to tree with the rest of the flock. I picked up some fertile Maran eggs in Kingston because one of my big featherfoot hens is getting broody. I found the farm on the info board at Sacks feed store in Kingston and went to Harley Bob's Eggs farm. What a great place he has. He sells both day old Marans and fertile eggs AND is at the Kingston Farmers Market every Saturday. He was really interested in the Forum so I gave him the website. Hopefully we will hear from him also.
Thanks again;
Featherfoot

Good to hear she is settling in. I take it she has snapped out of being broody! I wish I could expand and get some marans too! But that just can't happen right now. It would be interesting to see the egg color, a real brown instead of pastel brown of the regular layers.

Most of the snow is gone now, just an inch or so on eaves and on some structures.

Wow, this thread has sure grown since I last posted here!

I moved closer into town (Bellingham) recently and we're still trying to get set up.

With the weather this spring I'm glad I procrastinated on planting the garden!

Right now I've got about 40 eggs in the 'bator, due to hatch this Saturday. I'd love to get a bird or two that I could take to the fall shows!

Anyhow... greetings once again, fellow Washingtonians!
