OK everyone, here is a whole mess of pictures, but first, a little story about us going fishing one HOT summer day a few years ago:
We had not been out in the boat for a few weeks, but hooked up and towed to the lake, and lauched, I with the rope, DH parked and we got in the boat and shoved off, fast, we are very good at alunching and loading when there is always a line at the ramp.
Out a ways, I saw the first yellow jacket, and you can guess the rest of the story !

I love the dark head that fades to blue, looks cool, maybe not good for show but I like her..

these are the BBS Marans and the Wyan sisters, enjoying the ruins of the garden, looks so pretty in all those flowers...

and lately the water tanks, anyone need any of these ?????
DH is going nuts collecting them, we are over run with them, he has hauled water and saved rain water and has chlorinated it...and there is more tanks !

I'm also looking for a 20'-ish shipping container for low cost. does not have to be pretty just solid and water tight. I have to rebuild my garage and the carport "tent" thingie just does not keep water out so everything is back into the garage

And you are SO mean! I don't want to wait for spring to get started. lol But I think I should. So looking at your blue girls... Is the darker girl closer to standard than the lighter blue with the dark head? I'm just trying to get an Idea of what to look for in birds.

When the time comes that I do start actively searching for birds, I am thinking of going off of type first before anything else. I don't just want pretty blue eggs, lol I want birds that are close enough to standard so that I can work with them.

If anyone has any helpful tips that you don't mind giving, I would greatly appreciate it. I can't say that I am 100% new to chickens, but I am new to breeding, and plan to learn as much as I can. Ive been reading ALOT and not just on BYC, and have figured out the bare basics. But I could learn so much more from others who have experience.

Can anyone give me the name to the Ameraucana Breeder in Seabeck? I can't remember the name for the life of me.

The Ameraucana breeder in Seabeck is Cree Farms. They have a website. There is also Jean/Pips & Peeps on here. I think there are lots of folks on this thread too that have them.


I have HAPPY news!!! My older (champion) BLRW pullet, who will be 30 weeks, (yes 30 WEEKS!!!) this weekend, laid her first egg today!!!!

Unfortunately, it had been demolished when I found it, but there was most definently one in her coop today. Hopefully nobody in there decided to munch on it.

I just got a shipment of bantam cochin eggs today too, that I was planning to put in the bator tonight. Hopefully she'll lay me another one tomorrow so I can throw at least one test eggof hers in with that batch!

If anyone has any helpful tips that you don't mind giving, I would greatly appreciate it. I can't say that I am 100% new to chickens, but I am new to breeding, and plan to learn as much as I can.

I am also fairly new to breeding, been working on growing out our starter stock, mostly from eggs purchased on here, in hopes that they will be producing by spring.

My advice is, after you determine what breeds you want to work, try and find a related thread on here with other folks who are working on that breed.


I know there is a Wyandotte thread and both an English Orpington and Lavender Orpington threads. I lurk on all of those and have learned A LOT. People post pics and you can find out who has birds you like and most of them sell eggs/chicks or even started birds. There are also Breed Club websites. I know that the Ameraucana Breeder Club ( http://www.ameraucana.org/ ) has a nice website with a forum. Cochin International is another good website if you are interested in cochins. Do your research and read as much as you can about the breeds that interest you and use that as a starting point. And Have Fun!!!!!​

The sad part is Illia... I was thinking about you today, and then totally forgot you have AM's lol I'm having one of those days. I was just asking about Cree because I know they have or um had true Am's. But I was really just wanting to look at their website.

I'm wondering if starting with a mixed color flock is the way to go. Or would it be better to start with one color first? What are the pro's and cons to keeping a same breed but mixed colored flock of AM's be? Maby I should post these questions on the Ameraucana thread. lol But I want to see what you all think first, because you are local.
