The sad part is Illia... I was thinking about you today, and then totally forgot you have AM's lol I'm having one of those days. I was just asking about Cree because I know they have or um had true Am's. But I was really just wanting to look at their website.

I'm wondering if starting with a mixed color flock is the way to go. Or would it be better to start with one color first? What are the pro's and cons to keeping a same breed but mixed colored flock of AM's be? Maby I should post these questions on the Ameraucana thread. lol But I want to see what you all think first, because you are local.

I keep my hens mixed, my cockerels/cocks mixed, but keep the genders separate until I breed them.

Keeping them mixed and able to breed colors over colors will cause EE colors to appear, and thus people will consider your birds Easter Eggers. If you want to breed them, keep the boys of one color away from the girls of another color - Wether that be separate pens, coops, or whole pastures. If you don't want to breed them for selling, it won't really matter. It is up to you.

If someone was wondering - I have Wheaten, Blue Wheaten, and Blue/Black/Splash Ameraucanas.

Next year I plan to add Buff Ameraucanas to that list.

Well I don't want just random colors popping up. lol I want Ameraucanas, not an Ameraucana thats going to be accused of being an EEger. lol Yes I do realise they would still be AM's, just off colored.

So Wheaton is a standard color, that breeds true, and Blue Wheaton is not a standard color?, that wont breed true? Or is it??? Ive never seen Buff Am's, I bet they are pretty. I think I should go read the ABC website again. lol Need to get all this info straightened out in my head.

I know that I do want Wheatons, so maby I should just start with them.

Blue Wheatens are also a standard, recognized colors. Blue Wheaten works in the same way Blue does. You can breed them to Wheatens or even Splash Wheatens, and all will be fine. I've got two Blue Wheaten pullets and two Wheaten pullets, and no matter what type of Wheaten cockerel I have, all is good.

If it were not up to the new owner of our Sebbies, I'd say "Here! Take em!"

. . . But they're apparently spoken for. By a family member.

Yes, usually a nice, dark, nearly black head and blue body points roo early on. Also, look out for the shoulders and tail turning a very dark blue color.

I sat and watched this flock today, and fed them baby greens...and sure enough, there is 2 with black heads fading to blue bodies, stocky shanks, curled tailfeathers, and what looks like a few neck hackle that is gold colored...curious....I have 13 OEs in the same pen, and they are 1/2 BCM and half Blue Am...and 8 blue ameraucanas...and some of these OEs are blu-ish...and up until now, it has been difficult to tell them apart.
I thought for sure I'd have to either keep them until they lay..or hire Illia to seperate them for me !!

It is apparent now !!!
So I have 2 beautiful blue Ameraucana boys...and 7 hens, a good mix.
And still, out of the 12 OEs, Duke is the only roo, and more gorgeous everyday, what an awesome colored boy he is, with beetle turquise-purple shiney body and tail, and black full beard, and golden hackle.
Can't waite to see the big olive green eggs !!!

I do not know who it is , but someone out here has tons of seabrights, there were 15 cages of them at the fair here...practically nothing but.
I may be able to track down the 4 H people out here and see who it is...want me to ?
They had every flavor you could think of...

Hey guys, did I tell you that DH insists that there is 1 roo and 3 hens in the 4 Rhode Island Whites we hatched...DH takes care of the babies in a different coop across the yard, I do not go there as I have been in with the other birds and we do not cross contaminate...any way he says when he feeds them, the one stands tall tall tall ! And will actually step forward and peck his fingers when he puts their feed bowl in the brooder...YIPPEEE !

The new coop is done, fully insulated and painted inside, and tomorrow will move birds.
The blue Marans will move to the new coop, and the blue Ams need to be seperated from the OEs...THAT is gonna be difficult...

Heather,

I may have another female available in the next month or so. I'll be in touch after the shows this month and after I get a chance to go through the birds and decide which ones I want to keep.

I have 15 and only want to keep 7 or 8.
