So right this minute you are having a monsoon over there ?
We here on Willapa Bay are fine, quiet, calm, no wind...maybe the calm before the storm ?
Scarey.
OK, so the hatch was 9 eggs, and 4 roos, and 2 has the gold, would you replace the entire batch as even those hens could have the gold gene ?

I think we should shoot for Birchen Ams as they really want to be.

If you want to make a sort of project on it, then keep one of the non-gold roos, and try and separate the eggs from each hen when hatching them. Try and keep track as they grow up to see which hen carried the gold gene on to the offspring and which didn't.

I've done it with cleanfaced-ness in Ameraucanas before. Fun, time consuming thing to do.

Yes, we're having a monsoon. . . . You live in Willapa Bay? Wow for some reason I thought you were in Seattle, but remember now our discussion once about where you live.

Well, guess if you are getting it then it is coming my way.
You need to get a coop for the polish !
Winter is coming !
Yeah, and you get the worst weather over there..I just finished my LAST coop yesterday, all but have to paint the outside.
woot.gif

Fully insulated, lined inside with OSB ((which is on sale at Home Depot right now $6.99 a sheet !!!!!!!!!!!!!)))
It is 8x8, and way tall, 7 feet tall so I do not have to hit my head.
This is coop #4.
Still have dig proofing to go on one side of the pen fence...RIWs on 1 side (4x8) and Blue Ams (4x8) on the other side.
Me and Dh are getting to be the best coop builders...now if we only had a house, but he is still digging the well, no well, no building permit !!!

Ameraucanas already do come in the recognized color of "Silver," though rare, which is still Silver Duckwing.

Gold Duckwing on the other hand isn't an Ameraucana color, and though I'd love it to be, don't understand why it isn't.

Jean Ribbeck (Pips and Peeps) has some nice silvers.

I think I am going to stick with the blue wheaten and red/blue like in the pic I posted...I also just read a bizarre article in a farm, where they are project breeding Cuckoo Marans with Blue Ams and got a blue Cuckoo Am, which seems to me would be nothing more than an OE...not ever lay blue...it was Blue Birch Farm or some such....Illia I saw the weather, it looks nasty!
It is still calm and nice here...Cheryl getting the weather too ?
It said on the news that we (you) could get up to 1 " over night !!
Wow, g'night !

I currently grab him every night and he goes into the garage but He hates being away from the girls and gives me the stink eye every morning when I let him out.

I have some Javas lined up for spring if I can get away from it.
Javas are wonderful birds...there was just a few articles on them in Mother, go back through the archives.
I just got Rhode Island White eggs and hatched 4 chicks, 1 roo we are sure of so far, and 3 hens, so hopefully we can work on bringing this breed back from the verge also.
I will send a PM to the woman I got my RIWs from, she has Javas I am pretty sure.
Even more rare is white Javas...but blacks are so beautiful.
And how are you going to do all this when you cannot have a rooster ?
Why can't we surgically prevent a rooster from crowing so city folk can keep them ?
A simple altercation with the vocal cords ?
Sounds so mean, but it is possible and within a decent cost amount ?
Have to ask our Tacoma vet about that opinion ?
I know when the general alarm goes up here..a hawk or mysterious shadow under a bush...ALL my birds go off including the Guineas and the din can blow your ear drums out...and poof! Every bird disapears, and not a peep made.
You would never know a single chicken lived here, it is like a ghost town !
lol.png

But I seriously can admit the girls going off on alarm or the "I am gonna lay an egg " song and a few extra hens always join in on the song singing and that can be just as noisy if not more noisy as a roo crowing.
So far, I have 6, and none crow before 6:30.
It is nice in that he is my alarm clock and gets my butt out of bed.

Well, hopefully Illia made it through that storm last night !
hide.gif

It never did get even breezy here on Willapa Bay...the storm came ashore ON Forks and skidded north east to Canada, kicking butt across the Olympics and Sequim along the way with trees toppling and up to 2" of rain in 8 hours !
WOW! And it is not even stormy season yet !!!
Poor Illia Are you and your farm OK ???

We got hit around 3Am. It was coming down so hard and loud that it woke me up twice. I'm glad Ive got the shelter up for the horses, but sheesh... I have GOT to get someone light enough to climb on the roof and finish tacking on the three tab.

At least they have a wind break. We get some pretty crazy winds living where we are. In four years of living here, I think I can only remember 2 weeks of still air. lol

It was clear, a muggy warm 68 degrees when I went to bed at 11. I do love how clean the air is after a good hard rain. Now it is cloudy and misty, but I can see some blue up there amungst all the clouds.

Speaking of the egg song... Have the sisters sang for you yet? When they were here with me, they would sing together while one of them layed there egg. They would switch, and were alsways together.

I'm still waiting the long wait with my pullets, though I swear I heard a quiet egg song from my barred rock, or maby it was the delaware... And the polish roo, he's so stinking cute, when I go out to give them treats, or any type of food for that matter. He chirps and coo's at me, will duck his head down and twist around so that he is looking at me upside down. He is such a goofy lil roo.
