Funny you should ask! We just finished candling. Cochins didn't do so hot. We are down to 2 or 3, one if still iffy. BUT, all four of our own Old English Game Bantam Crele eggs are doing wonderfully! They are my middle DD's 4-H project, and she only has a trio. This is our first attempt at hatching any of them. So that's exciting.

We just started collecting our BLRW eggs now in hopes of setting some of them for the first time when this batch is over. Hatch day is 10/14, Thursday.

Youngest DD decided she needs some Serama eggs and wants to work with them for 4-H, so going to try and find some to add in with the BLRW. The cochins are my eldest DD's 4-H project. She just wants the BBS, I'm working on lavender & mottled cochins, BLRW, Lav & BBS Orps. I think I've convinced DH we can do another coop before winter as an add on to the new Goat Barn.

what was it that you ordered ??
You know, when she gets going (large breeds take along time to mature) she ought to produce ALOT of BIG eggs...but eat alot of feed in the process...

I had some neighbors ask for Black Stars (sexlinks) so I ordered eggs to hatch and sell them chicks.. not happening now

OK I need some input here. I am looking at a new feed supply. I would like to get some opinions about this feed. Here is a copy of the label.

Well I enjoyed a wonderful day in the rain. I just added a new run for my banties. Do ya think 22'x28' of out door run is enough for 6 tiny banties ? Actually with the new space I think I am going to add some RIR bantam. I know a local breeder and they are supposed to be awesome layers for thier size.

I just popped 18 eggs in our new incubator - standard Frizzle Cochins and B/B/S Cochins (also standard). If all goes well, I hope to have a lot of foofy Cochin chicks running around the end of the month.

Meanwhile, I'm still on the lookout for Bantie Cochin pullets (smooth, preferably, but Frizz may be good, too) and Seramas. Anyone interested in a chick trade?

That would be me, but not until spring when/if I get a larger coop.

I'd also prefer to get some closer to home. You're lucky to get a 50% hatch rate on shipped eggs, but thank you for thinking of me.

Still wondering if I'm "in Kansas anymore" . . . . We've been hammered by a lot of rain/wind storms lately, and things are a mucky, stinky, soggy mess. . . Plus with my new job, my actual time available to clean it up has been quite short.

But, I've got loads of Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas and Marans and Tolbunt Polish x Silver Laced Polish as well as some Araucana x Marans (Olive Eggers) in the bator right now!
