Can you guys say PORTABLE GENERATOR !!!!

It may be well worth looking in to. They are very easy to use. Fill with gas, pull the rope and plug an extension cord in. DO NOT EVER run a portable gen inside any building.

I guess we are lucky. My family has lived in this location for 5 year, and our power has only gone out one time. Was only out for an hour. I guess it helps that we are only 6 houses down the power lines from the main power station for our area.

Though we do have a generator next door, that is large enough to give partial power to my families two properties. Enough to keep the hot box for the horses running, some lights in the houses, and our wells running... Thats more than enough for me.

so i went home last weekend and yesterday i got to see my chickens before i had to return to pullman

i got to see how the 5 chicks that i hatched matured. 3/5 i think are roos
and when you cross a buff brahma roo with a Rir it looks beautiful. my bf thinks i should work on breeding red brahmas.

now if only i can get the combs to be pea... otherwise he is looking nice and compared to the light brahma chick it hatched with and the buff chick, it is the faster of the maturing brahma roo offspring. cant wait to cross my buff brahma roo with the acona hens in the spring. the one roo of that breed matured soooo dang fast.
it looks like he has the build of a brahma, just alot redder.

his dad has huge legs. he is over a year old and is still working on growing in his spurs. i would say almost an inch plus in circumference for his legs.
the one pictured i am not sure how big it will get since it has grown faster than its half brothers.

i think for fun i will post this pic on the guess the breed thread to see just how well ppl are at guessing his cross.

Well I would NEVER have been able to guess what he is. But I like his size! My husband would freak out if a young roo that big showed up here. lol
I guess I am hoping that raising chicks and having him watch them grow up, will ease the shock of how large a LF roo can get. lol

I have a jersy giant roo (black) that makes my biggest, oldest roo. the buff brahma (who is 11-12 pounds i am guessing) look medium sized.
Imagine crossing a brahma and a jersy giant.... could it be possible to outdo a turkey?

I don't know if you could get a chicken to out weight a turkey... Ive seen some REALLY large tom turkeys... I had one when I was 16 that weighed in at over 23 pounds. His name was Hermon, and he sure tasted good. lol

Would be an interesting project, but I would assume that who ever tried would ruin into issues like meat birds have, if said person wasn't careful. But I'm not a genetics expert by any means, and I don't even breed, or let my chickens breed yet. Next spring though, I will have birds for a start up breeding pen! I'm excited!

Chickielady is only laughing because she is remembering the things that her babies did....as am I at this moment. My daughter had a vomiting episode in the middle of the night. She then decided it would be fun to paint herself and the wall with it. It was disgusting. Puke everywheres.

Also, my dd peed on me. Took the diaper off, held her leg (so she would not roll off) and reached under the changing table for a diaper....suddenly had a wet sensation going down my arm....yep, she peed on me....I had always thought only boys did that. We all have our horror stories and as the moms of older children we can now look back and laugh. But we laugh with you, as you too will look back one day and laugh (even though right now you want to cry). Go to bed....I hope that tomorrow is better.

My DH is remembering the poop paint the entire wall episode with his twins.....
Oh yeah, I remember strolling through the grocery store and Ben crapped, the most gurgly nasty running snarley....poopy...he was so cute, toe head with big blue eyes,,,little osh kosh bibs...and snaps in the crotch so's you could change the diddy...and it went through, and he was red faced, he was grunting !!!! down both legs, all over the groceries below in the cart...so I rushed to the check out, and the poor girl had to check us out, the FULL grocerie cart all dripped with Ben poo.....it was one of the most wonderful mom stories I have.
The other was when he delt with the food bank people in Okanogan...OMG kids can make your life exciting !!!
