Welcome. My kids used to go to Charles Wright. I used to be pretty familiar with the area. Wjat breeds are you looking for?

I noticed some shaggy manes coming up in front of the neighbors house the other day. I used to gather mushrooms when I was a teenage.

Since I've started using arborists' chip in the garden, I've noticed a lot more mushrooms, including some morels. Maybe I should get some mushroom spawn.

I have picked morels with a person of knowledge....and they were so good...yum. I never eat any wild mushrooms that I don't know...I can't tell the difference. All I know is that sauteed in butter and garlic....fantastic.

REgarding cat food: Okay, I thought someone had said something about it bad given to chickens. ....so I thought I would check.

Ring neck pheasant aren't native. They were introduced from China for hunting. Chukar is not native either. It's from the middle east.

So tiny !
If you let go will the little boogers just fly straight away ?
He looks like he wants to...maybe Justbugged needs some more little birdies in her cage.
Do you set any free ?
I am planning on getting dozens of ring neck pheasant and chuckar partridge eggs, maybe some wild turkey eggs too, from Dad-in-law and set them free out here.
We live across the street from a huge brackish marsh that has grasses up to 5 foot tall in summer, all surrounding the river and it is a protected flood-zone and wildlife area...awesome...never will be built upon.
I'd love to set native species free.

Though Secular Humanism posits that human beings are capable of being ethical and moral without religion, or God, that is not to say it assumes humans to be inherently or innately good.

I certainly will agree with that part about about assuming people are good inherently.

Possums, chukar, and pheasants were introduced to North America and are not indigenous, for fur or hunting I beleive. There are several kinds of grouse here in Washington and one or some may be natural to your area. I dont see a lot of native birds here in Seattle usually. The Stellar Jay, some Juncos I think. Crows. I dont know if you can legally set free captive raised specimens in Washington. In many states you cannt olegally do so without permits, etc. I do not know what kind of turkey is native to here either. An alternative for helping natice species may be to place nest boxes in appropriate places to help native birds and small mammals with rearing young. Planting strips of wintering forage may also be a good idea. It used to be a common thing to do, especially for turkey and deer. Also strips were left around property lines for quail and other birds to have somewhere to go. Somewehre along the modernization road it stopped happening.

Welcome to all the NOOBIES!!!

It was a long night here. Today is hatch day, however, we had 3 Crele OEGB's hatch over the last few days. I moved them to the brooder last night as there were several more eggs with pips and zips last night. Then we lost power at 4:00 am. We also have 3 three week old chicks in another brooder. Thank goodness we upgraded our security system over the summer, because it has an alarm when the power goes out! So it woke me up just minutes after it went out. If you all remember last Feb I lost 18 chicks because the brooder lamp went out in the middle of the night. So it's my greatest fear!

Anyway, the OEGB's are so small, the new ones all fit in my hand together. I slept, (well barely dozed) for 3 1/2 hours with them on my belly with my hand gently resting over them. The older chicks got put in a cat carrier and placed by a gas fire place . The incubator dropped down to only 97 degrees, but humidity was in the 70's! I remember Heather saying in her power outage last week that her humidity spiked way up there, so beware of that if you should ever lose power during a hatch!

So I slept in, and just found two of our Wyatt & Wynona BLRW chicks have hatched, and a 4th Crele OEGB is currently hatching! I'll try and get pics up later.

I GOT A BANTAM FAV!

Hubby woke me up this morning and said something is "ticked" in the incubator! LOL Sure enough, one little bantam fav is peeping away and LOUD! I didn't open the lid, just in case but it looks like it has a curled foot...(probably all of the humidity & temperature issues)...nothing else is pipped yet...today is day 22 and I was going to throw them away last night!

Yes, I'll get pics later after I confirm no one else is going to hatch....I just don't want to open the lid, yet.

So far our power hasnt had any issues the couple years weve been in Seattle really. Maybe for very short periods of time. While I lived in LA we would have the power go out at random times in the summer. We would just go home from work as they normally would last several hours. Is it normal or regular for power outages away from the city here? I used to live in a rural area and the power going out meant we had no water or lights. We had a gas tank though so we could cook and heat though.

Well lets put it this way. Zenyatta is a history making mare. And IF I was betting on the breeders cup, I would place my bet on her!

However I did enough gambling last night to last me a few years... My DH took me out for a comedy show at the Snoqualmy casino. That place is huge and such a mess to find parking. If anyone ever gets that chance to see Rodney Carington, do it! OH so very funny, had me in tears for most of the show. Even the opening act was worth seeing! We had a great time, even though we didn't get home until 4AM and are running on 0 sleep... Can't wait for Chloe to take her nap. Then its lights out for me.
