Yes--in fact, usually this occurs in February around here!

I went out about 9pm last night and checked on everyone and ended up closing up most of the pop holes...the wind was just whipping right into my coop and it got down to 25 degrees IN the coop!

But don't worry, Clarence & the girls are locked in...I noticed he was getting a little frostbite on his comb...and my stupid Sussex!!

I had to go out and pry the rooster off of the ramp (he insisted on trying to overnight on the ramp???) So he's locked in...I have to go back out and assess the damage he's done to his feet.

He tried this last year (hence the permanent dis-figuration of his toes, making him unable to show...

My newest birds (poor things) are in my quarantine coop (no heat, no insulation) and the other pair is in my horse trailer in quarantine...I checked on them and they were hunkered down, too...I gave them lots of whole corn and wheat last night...

Anyone want a dark Brahma rooster? My MIL just called me from work and there's a lady dying of cancer (my MIL is a nurse) that wants her rooster to go to a good, forever home...I guess he's really sweet....

If anyone's interested, please let me know...

OK, heres the pictures of my miracle babies from their 10 day shipping ordeal so were around 13 days by the time I got them. Also forgot to mention these eggs also went through a power outage while in the incubator. Eleven out of 12 shipped hatched. It is the best outcome I have ever had with shipped eggs. Maybe they all should take 10 days. LOL

Adorable!! Are they Lemon Blue or Partridge? They look like overly colored Lemon Blues, and maybe a Blue Partridge in there as well.

Well well. . . . Weather alerts say we're supposed to, as a whole Northwest of Washington, get down to at MOST 20 degrees tonght, with at LEAST 5 mph winds, and at LEAST 3 inches of snow.

At the most, the sound will get over 20 mph winds, down to 17 degrees, not including wind chill, and over 3 inches of snow. In fact, WA is to get 3-7 inches of snow tonight.

(and wee have a Washington, NH too!)

ChickieLady asked me to post this flock block recipe for your folks!

eta: i should have mentioned this is the block i use to deworm the chickens in the fall! berries can be switched out for other seasons.

i don't really have a set recipe but here is what i do to make it.

1 bread loaf-i've been using whole wheat-if i can find it in stores i try to get organic
1+/- cup water (or pumpkin pie filling-may need more than a cup or just add a little water too)
1-2 table spoons minced garlic
2 cups of scratch/bird/sunflower seeds
1 cup pumpkin seeds
shredded carrots or frozen berries (optional)

i take the whole loaf of bread and rip it to small pieces and mix enough water/pumpkin filling to make it stick together but not too soggy. add all the ingredients till they all stick together without much falling apart. put in a bread loaf pan that has been greased with either olive oil or preferred cooking oil or spray, put in oven at 350 deg. for about an hour till it feels firm. depending on the size of your flock you can change the size of the pan to be larger or i have also done some blocks in my over-sized muffin pan. let the loaf cool some before giving to flock.

this recipe should make 2-3 loaves. i take and freeze the extras if i can't give them all in one day. or i throw them to the wild birds, squirrels and chipmunks that visit.

these blocks don't seem to last long if you take their food away the night before and feed it as a special treat in the morning. or if they just love treats you can see if they will attack it right away like my flock seems to do!

good luck and feel free to PM me if you have any questions. or you can also search for 'flock block' and you should find the thread about making them!
