pips&peeps :

I drove our dually once in the snow; won't do it again.

Well absolute worst case I can put chains on (as much as I hate them) and maybe even take 2 of the rear tires off then it wouldn't be a duallie so should go better. Do ya think I would have to take one off each side or can I make it easy and just take em both off the same side.

Grrrrr!! Woke up at 6:30, checked the UW website and it still said classes and operations were resuming today.....got to work and received an email from the department administrator saying that we need to record the hours we work from home and let our bosses now how we are spending the day..etc.
I looked at the UW website again..they announced at 9:04 that operations and classes were cancelled due to inclement weather!!!

Seattle people are dumb. Darn hippies without snow plows, DHWOSP's!

Cute ducky butts!!! "Hey Mom! Where did all our grass go?"

This is at the steps onto the deck. "Ok Mom! Let us back in there! It's warm and we know that's where you keep the peas!"

Ok I just had to post this one to remind us all of those days when we could wear shorts and a t-shirt and play in the sun with our feathered babies! Just trying to warm us all up!

There is a house in Auburn right on a bus route that has a zillion chickens and ducks in their yard. Are they a BYC member?

Woke up to my husband's car vandalized.

He has a convertable Beetle, and after a 3 hr commute (15 miles) home on Monday night, he had to leave it at the bottom of our huge hill because he couldn't get it up. He tried to bring it up yesterday but it was a no go. One of our neighbors who also left their car down there called us this morning to let us know both cars were broken into. Nothing was taken, but they took a hammer to the windshield which left a hammer size hole and the rest of it cracked all over, and the back window in the convertable top was smashed to smithereens.

Then something is wrong with our heat. It didn't come on all night, woke up to 50 degrees in here. The thermostat which is hardwired in seems to be locked up. It's digital and we can't change any of the settings. DH went down and somehow got the furnace going, but it's still just a tad above 60 in here. I am so very thankful that it is still producing heat and we have not lost power, but still, just another hassle that needs fixing!

We only have about 2 inches here. So far the goats and birds are doing well. I have everyone locked in, and have been making lots of trips with the tea kettle defrosting water several times a day. I moved our little trio of OEGB's into the basement, moved the older two Lav Orp Roo's in with the layer flock. All the young chicks are in the basement and fine. Our teenager Orps and Ameraucana's seem to be doing just fine in their new coop.

Oh, Chickielady mentioned my alarm for when the power goes out. It is acutally our security system alarm panel. We nixed our land line home phone this summer, and when we did, we had to have the security co. come out and install a modem and they had to upgrade our 10 yr old system panel. Well that new panel sends an alarm when the power is out. Our old one did not. So I'm afraid I can't help with that.

Still sniffly and super stuffy headed here too! That's been no fun either! I'm ready for some normalacy!!!!

To all of you traveling for the holiday, be careful out there! And Happy Thanksgiving!!!

So sorry Poultry Mom! My car was broken into a few weeks ago at a Sounder train station. Was not happy at all.

Hope the heat gets working!

I have had that upper respiratory thing for 6 weeks now. It went away but something like it came back a week ago when my kids got it from somewhere. They had fevers though.

Thanks Pongoid. Yes, me and my 15 yr old DD have it, as do all of her friends. And my mom is visiting and she has a sinus infection. Not fun! Hoping my two younger girls don't get it.

24 hours without power... ugh. Took me 4 hours to get home from work night before last, mostly because of all the people trying to move on sheets of ice without chains. Tried to get back to the farm yesterday and like an idiot took my chains off at the highway, thought a few times about putting them back on but didn't. I did a slow motion 180 into a ditch on the other side of the road. I'm so grateful there wasn't anyone in the oncoming lane who had to pay for my idiocy. I managed to quickly hitch a ride back home.

At the farm there's frozen and broken pipes, have to open up the creek for the cattle, and have to break through the duck pond so they have water. I feel guilty sitting up here in my now toasty house while there is so much to do out there, but I am extremely scared of the sheet of ice that separates me and the farm. I guess tomorrow it's suppose to rain after the snow, and I'll make my way out there then.

Stay warm!
