I agree, teenagers are not easier. I have a 17 and 15 yo. And when he turns 18, I know the concern/worry (helicopter mom) switch does not turn off...just makes him liable for his own actions. Watch out world.

The way I describe the terible two's is, its just a small glimpse of what has yet to come... I know this is easy when looking back, but for me, a first time mom. Its not easy, and it wont get much easier. I understand this. But I also look forward to everything that will happen, good or bad. She's more than worth it for me.

If I could pile up english ivy in front of a goat and it would eat it all, leaves and vines, Id take a goat lol. The bus would let you take it on, half of the riders smell worse than goats anyway.

Artificial sweeteners Im not worried about the blood sugar impact, but the other side effects. "Once it gets to the gut, sucralose goes largely unrecognized in the body as food — that’s why it has no calories. The majority of people don’t absorb a significant amount of Splenda in their small intestine — about 15% by some accounts. The irony is that your body tries to clear unrecognizable substances by digesting them, so it’s not unlikely that the healthier your gastrointestinal system is, the more you’ll absorb the chlorinated molecules of Splenda". As I understand it Splenda and others celars the body of certain good things in your digestive tract and you get side effects like poor digestion and bowel issues. The chemical make up of the artificial sweetners is closer to pesticides than food. http://www.womentowomen.com/healthyweight/splenda.aspx

Google
the side effects of it. I use turbinado sugar, a less refined sugar. I dont want to be a guinea pig for the food company. I dont use artificial sweetners.

Our youngest gave our fish some sweet and sour sauce, he was about 2. We have not had fish since.

When my best friend was 2 yo he got up before everyone in the house and caught the goldfish, somehow, fired up the stove (on high) and fried up the fish for his breakfast. Got a tanned hiney too, I hear. The guy still loves to go fishing. Learned a bit about fryin' 'em up and not getting in trouble for it. Without having incredible rascals, what stories would we have to tell.
That said, mommies need breaks. And how!!! Bless your heart MaMa, hang in there and write all the stories and things she says down in a notebook. It will give you hours, days, years of pleasure later on.
I guarantee it

We used the leaf a lot when we lived in Paraguay. The native Guarani call it ka'a he'ê. It does take some getting use to, and I ended up steeping a leaf in water and using the water to sweeten with. You can make the water as concentrated sweet as you'd like.

I haven't used it much since coming back to the States as I prefer cane sugar. I did however start a few plants of it in the greenhouse this year.

Of course they are worth it. Being a new mom you really have no idea of whats to come and as the years go by you slowly build up resilience to the physical exhaustion. It's just cleaning up physical messes like dog food and poop are easy when compared to the mental, emotional, spiritual and financial exhaustion of trying to teach them how to prevent and/or clean up their own teenage messes. So, definately get a baby sitter and take as many breaks as you need because when they are teens (and early to mid 20's for boys) you can't get a baby sitter. If you need a break you just hop in the car and drive away but you don't really get a break because the whole time you are gone you are worried if your house is still standing when you get back! (thats probably mostly for boys though, for girls they could be on the phone to the boyfriend as soon as you pull out the driveway) But , I really do understand what you are feeling. Make sure you get that baby sitter once in a while.

Hi all! Long time no post for me.... Life just never seems to slow down and lately the only time I come on to post is when I'm looking for good homes for peeps!

Sooooo, guess what? You guessed it: I'm looking for a good home... I have a 4 1/2 month old blue orp baby (big gigantic baby) that I was holding out hope was a pullet, but I don't think I can hold out hope much longer. He's been verrrrrrry slow to mature (not to grow! just to mature...) and I'm still not 100% sure that he's a he... BUT as he is beginning to start to get some mature feathering going on, I'm pretty sure I'm seeing roo hackle and saddle feathers. His comb and wattles are still just blah mid size and not super red and he hasn't crowed - but those feathers, oh those stinkin' feathers. I'm not in a huge hurry to rehome him since he's not crowing and annoying any neighbors. But he can't stay - I need my precious urban coop-space occupied by egg-laying girls!!!! (And I covet Wellsummers and Ameraucanas someday!!!)

He's a lovely dark blue, huge (almost as big as my gigantor black orp girls already), and fairly friendly (will take treats, etc, but doesn't like to be picked up/held). I hatched him and several others this summer from fertile eggs provided by the breeder of all of my orps. He comes from exhibition (not hatchery) stock and is going to be a BIG and beautiful roo (don't put him with any small girls who can't outrun him!). I'd love to find him a good home. I have no idea how much I'd like to sell him for - my main concern is that he get the opportunity to live out a long and happy roo life. I don't have pics yet, but will be taking some asap!

Let me know if you or someone you know may be intersted!!!!

Hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving and have a great holiday season!!!!!!!
