i sweent good before and that aint it. What got a hold of her head? Thats a lot of open skin. I dont think that chickens get a lot of infections but thats a candidate for it I think.

I emailed Rainwolf this morning and havent heard from her either, she must be busy, as we all get from time to time.

Whens a good time to meet? I am open during many day times as well.

Well, the disease is apparently in Eastern WA and trying to spread over here.
And apparently deer can get it or WA D of F&G would not be checking hunter's deer for the disease, be careful !

There is not anything but one tiny flap at the base of her neck that's left...sighs...I just bought her on Sunday!

Other chickens...I just bought her on Sunday and her and two others are in my quarantine coop. I came home tonight and one was missing. I found her in the corner, scalped.

I thought the plan was for me to bring Weava's feed to the show. Come on I need a little bit of a reason to go. If ya woulda got with it sooner I coulda brought yers to the show as well.

BTW It is too late we already have the disease here. we usually have a couple every year on our place. I have also been told that it is SUPPOSEDLY related to the animal having worms and that if they could be wormed it would clear up.

Poor bird, poor rare feathers; that looks wicked! I hope she's not in pain. I hope she pulls through okay. Manuka honey makes a great antibiotic for deep wounds, but I don't know if it can be used on chickens. You can get it at health food stores.

I cleaned it out with beta-dine, IVORY soap & water. I then packed the flap with Neosporin (non-medicated kind), then used some PDZ puffer on it. That seemed to hurt her. I was going to finish it off with some blue kote but she was pretty upset so I decided to wait a few hours and do it before I go to bed.

I gave her some electrolytes and antibiotics in her water. She is eating & drinking and seems to be enjoying the dog crate next to the fire.

Rare feathers - I hope that the hen is feeling better and does well through the night. And I agree with Ogress, it is time for a nice glass of wine and some chocolate.
