We caught it early, partly by accident. He put some neosporin on this sore. A few hours later there was this big red patch. It was probably an allergic reaction to the neosporin, but it prompted us to go to urgent care before the infection had spread much.

Wow, lots of posts!

Sounds like Ron B, DIYSeattle, hallerlake, PitterPatterPalace and maybe a few others might like to grab a cup of coffee somewhere north of Seattle.
Anyone else interested? Kim? Rainwolf? I'm new to the board so I'm not sure who else lives in a nearby neighborhood.

How about the Commons at Third Place Books in the Lake Forest Park Mall?
Lots of nice, big ol' wood tables and a food court for anyone wanting a warm beverage or even dinner.
Just off Bothell Way: 17171 Bothell Way Northeast, Lake Forest Park, WA 98155 - (206) 366-3333

How about Thursday, December 9, say about 7:00 p.m.?
My neighbor (and fellow urban farmer) told me she'd love to join me. Anybody else care to come?

We'll either be in line at the Honey Bear Bakery or over by the floor chess board.
I'll be the one with a few pieces of straw stuck to my sweater and maybe a little poo on my muck boot

Here's what we look like.
Anybody free that night?

That MRSA is miserable, and scary! How's he doing?

I had an infection on my leg 3 yrs ago ... thought I had a bug bite, sudden fever, groin pain and in just a few hrs cellulitis covered my leg from ankle to knee, dark red skin with fluid filled blisters that burned and itched. 3 doctors and three hospitals in 3 days, 6 different antibiotics at once, and they were telling me my skin was going to turn black and fall off. My daughter is allergic to antibiotics, so we always have jars of manuka honey around. My Dr. was skeptical and did not want me to put it on at first, but then agreed that it could not hurt and let me put on 1 large gauze bandage over part of it. The next morning the blisters under the gauze were nearly gone as were the red streaks I had running from the rash area to my mid thigh (though the pain from those streaks lasted several weeks). I covered the entire area with honey for about a week and then the infection was pretty much gone, only lost a little skin where the blisters pooled at my ankle. No scars. - I still got the pics, the rash was outlined and times written on it by the Docs as it spread. Does not look as red as I remember it to be.

All those antibiotics did make me allergic to at least one of them - my tongue swelled and I thought it was thrush, but the Dr. said it was likely an allergic reaction to cephalosporin, so she had me quit taking that and the penecilin ... I forgot what the other 4 were. Thankfully I did not need the I.V., but had to go in twice daily for injections.

I think once you have had it, it never totally gets out of your system .. a couple of times I have had something similar start ... a small red dot surrounded by a large area hot to the touch. Now I immediately smother anything suspiscious with honey and a giant bandaid to keep me from scratching under it. The honey has been used by hospitals for decades in New Zealand and Austrlaia. A couple years back, it was FDA approved for burn units here. The hospitals get it as expensive honey-treated sterile bandages, but you can just buy (14+ UMF) food-grade jars and it works fine. 8 years ago when I first started buying it for my daughter, it was pretty cheap. Since it has been in the press a lot, prices have sky-rocketed. $37 a bottle at PCC! The little nutrition store in North Bend still charges only $18 for a jar.

I hope he has a speedy recovery!

I'd be up for meeting in Seattle some day (but not the 9th). Or if anyone is crossing I-90 and passing through North Bend.... Wish I could go to the show, but stuff like that will have to wait till spring.

Your coop looks great! I think I'm going to learn how to use a hammer, as my DH's fix-it skills are limited to computers. I need to fix that darn dog kennel and put a sturdy, predator resistant, snow sturdy roof on it before the new year.

Off subject, but I wanted to say that I will miss you at our show coming up this week end, but it sounds like you are distracted by babies...but soon you will be here with us !
Have you made up your minds where you want to live ?
And do not forget Oregon either, OR is beautiful....as is Idaho !!
Most people move where they work, and that is that .
And this person looking for hatching eggs...driving all the way to Sandpoint ?
Are you out Cusick way or North up towards Elmira ?

It looks like we are narrowing it down to the Colville area, maybe the Colville National Forest, but we are still looking in several counties (Spokane, Pend Oreille, Stevens, Ferry, and Okanogan). I have looked in Oregon but did not like what I found.

We have 27 more days until she is here and tomorrow we have a sonogram, yea.

I reccomend Leavenworth, Dryden, Peshastin. or if you want seasonally remote, methow, twisp, or on a lake chelan. because honestly the best place to live is NCW its a short drive from any point of the state, other than the penninusla... we have the cheapest electricity prices. many recreational activities. fiber optics. Wenatchee. i live in Peshastin..... google Chelan or Douglass County.... oh lake wenatchee is a quiet place, beautiful nearby but has mosquitos. oh one of the only places where you can get over 300 days of sunshine. its true. i travel alot but i always love to return to my mountains. 20 drive i am in the dessert. 45 min drive i am in a lake. 10 minute drive, deep in the mountains.

Consider us!
What kind of work do you want? there is many industrial and agriculture in my area plus tourism retail and many other things.

if you are looking for realestate in the NCW area my mom is a realtor and can help you find a place. she been doing it 17+ years
email me if you want a realtor to help you, cos my mom is one of the best.
http://www.prudentialmikewest.com/ is where my mom works. its a great office, they do tons of volunteer projects all the time.
look for Teri Miller http://www.prudentialmikewest.com/index.php?page_id=17&staff_id=8

I was jealous of all the sunshine on the East Side, and then realized I'm less than 20 miles from the pass (much closer than Seattle!). Now when it rains in the summer on this side, we park our camper at Lake Kachess and hang out there!

Now I'll have to take the chickens along....

Ooooops! I've got to figure out how to properly title photos on the "My BYC Page." I finally took a look at it not in "edit" mode.

I tried to write under the photos of my dogs: "Shasta and Willow - Chicken Poop Eaters", but the "Chicken Poop Eaters" part bumped down to the next line so it is under a photo of my daughter instead of the dogs!

I better change that before she discovers it! But the washer load is almost done, so I'm off to bed as soon as it goes in the dryer. Guess it will have to wait until tomorrow evening.

Serisouly though I would LOVE to visit and go see ReiMiraa's flock, and then see some babies. That would be a fun challange to figure out the parentage.

i would be glad to have visitors where i can talk about chickens and not seem weird. it would be nice, you could visit leavenworth. if you do come let me know. most of the time i am now stuck here in pullman. but if i am there i can give you eggs and free fruit from the fruitstand if you come in may. asparagus.
hey, at the same time here i am drooling over your flock Illa.between you and me we will eventually have every breed. though mine are hatchery and not "pure breed" my standard is that they live in the conditions here, look really cool, and lay eggs. not that i am counting eggs.... oh i wonder if you can butcher hens for stewing and donate the meat to the community cupboard? mom gave them eggs yesterday and were surprised and thrilled. makes me happy to see that i can help some people in the winter and then charge alot for eggs from city people during the summer. i should charge more in summer to try and cover the cost of donating them in the winter....

if chickens could talk and demand welfare, well jerry springer couldn't handle it!!!!

went to the shrink today to finish a test. for ADHD. and the results were interesting. i am going to retest in january when no add medecine is in me. the results were flipped flopped. i tested worse with the medication, but without the medication i do not sleep as well or focus as well because i have so many thoughts going in my head it would make most people insane. the fact that i am obsessive about my chickens and have a few more compulsive thoughts/thinking possibly means i am OC. then the non verbal IQ test uh.... i was over 130. but the last result which is why i am seeing this shrink again is because the tests say i am bi polar. since the tests were done on a computer he wants to chat with me to see what definition i fit. Currently i am a riddle for him. which is great, i always considered my self confusing. shrinks love puzzles. with add medecine i do better in certain ways sleep better eventhough it stimulates, it blanks my mind/ one thought at a time. and appitite is not really there, and with out i do better in certain ways but i do not sleep because i am always thinking and thinking, and i make more mistakes.... so yes a puzzle. maybe try a different add medecine, not many left for me to try. or try increasing the dose in the morning so its stronger. adderall is only a few hours but sideaffects are insonmia and i still feel its affects of a quietened mind.
i am going to sleep. the ambien kicked in...... i am on celexia because my moods became unstable at the beginning of the month and get depressed/homesick and this stuff work well on hormones.
on antibiotics again amoxacillian 875mg pink horse pill.... that has cleared up my tonsilitis fast, its going away faster than if i was to tough it out, this prevented me from fevers..... see the sooner i get rid of this sore throat the better. because next week is dead week. the week for studying before finals. and i want to be as healthy for that .... then on Dec 21 3 days into my break. i get my tonsils removed and i will be down for the count for 2 weeks.... no skiing sad... this means i wouldn't get to work at the ski hill( i do it for fun not the money). sad. and i just got alpine level 1 certified instruction too...

so there is a little snippit of my life lately..... the BYC this thread, is one constant in my life for me while stuck here in pullman.... I have yet to go out and party. i want to but at the same time too afraid.

sorry a little unloading on how my day went. alot been on my mind..... if it is TMI sorry. i prefer to be blunt. this is the past week and month.
