Hey, I know people out here who refuse to buy our eggs because:

- Eww, farm eggs are gross and dirty

- I've tried those organic eggs at the store and they taste the same

- But I saw some blood in an egg once! Won't I eat a chick? I don't want to eat a live chick!

- Green eggs are bad eggs

LOL. My dad has always called scrambled eggs...fillet of unborn chicken. So a red spot has never stopped me. Something solid has...but not just a lil' ole' blood spot.

Regarding the eewwww, farm eggs are gross and dirty. Do store eggs come from some other source than a chickens rear-end? We used to have a milk cow, milked her twice a day. Brought in the warm milk, cleaned it. Let it separate.....the whole 9-yards. My "city" cousin was over and was watching us do the process and she freaked out. She refused to drink any of our milk ....her mother went to the local grocery store and got her "store" milk. I guess because THAT is where milk comes from.

People can just plain be ignorant. . . Or idiots, pardon my language.

Take a look at how many fall for the advertisements and stickers and photos of our store-bought stuff coming from green pastured, happy farms filled with diversity. Umm, no, your store bought stuff comes from huge monocropped lands and poor owners who can't do much else, or huge factory-like facilities.

Don't ask me whats in fruit juice! I love freaking them out with that when they are debating stuff with me and drinking juice.

But then I'm weird and talk with the kids in the family about where/how food is made/raised. I also have them sit in on at least 1 culling, clean their own fish etc..

LOL - That reminds me of a couple days ago when I was at the store with a friend, we were looking at a thing of "Natural Fruit Juice." The flavor was Guava and Pomegranate. - Guess what the relevant ingredients were?! - Pear Juice Concentrate and Natural Flavors.

Seriously?! You can get real pear juice, and NOT pomegranate or guava? Why bother? I mean, wouldn't that just make it - "Pear Juice" ?

Some companies are just plain hilarious.

My kids are a bit better .... but they have never seen anything butchured or had to milk a cow. We have chickens...they see the eggs. I make my own chicken stock. They know to always ask before throwing any bones away, as I may need to make stock. One year when our old cherry trees were overly fruitful they got to help pick, dry and can mountains of cherries....never have had a crop like that again. Finally cut down the trees as they were so old and found out that both of them had rot in the center. They were over 50 years old. So my kids have had a secluded life somewhat....at least they know where produce and eggs, meat and milk comes from. And it is not from Wal*Mart.

I know many of those "starving farmers" you have referred to. There used to be quite a few ranchers in the Methow Valley. A lot of them sold out and moved...couldn't afford it any more.

I will have to say Omak and Twisp have one of the most Fantastic Farmer's Market's around (as far as I am concerneed). If you get to the Twisp one....get a Cinamon Twisp (from the bakery)...they are to die for. Sorry Chickielady....that was not nice of me cuz I know you can't have one. Maybe they will have a treat that you can eat.

Regarding the Pomegranite juice...made with pear juice. You are so right. Advertising. Do you know how many people think that "fruit snacks" have fruit in them? I think the first ingrediant is sugar. I tell my kids just because they are shaped like a fruit does not make it healthy.

Well I'm jealous of everyone getting to go to the show this weekend. I knew I wouldn't be able to go on Saturday though, since I'd already scheduled a Holiday Open House and Food Drive at our wine shop. I had thought I could zip up there early Sunday just to see what I could see, but this afternoon brought my husband home from the hospital where he had knee replacement surgery on Tuesday. He's not feeling too good, (natch!) and with limited mobility I have to be somewhat near to take care of him. Soooo, I guess I'll just have to plan for the next show! There's one in the spring, correct? Hopefully by that time the coop will at least be started and I'll be that much closer to actually being able to find the right girls to add to our family. Hope all attending this weekend have a great time, let us know all about it and post lots of pics!

Yes, there is another show in the spring, in March I believe at the Evergreen Fairgrounds in Monroe.

Robin, I know they don't charge an entry fee at the spring show. Not sure on this one though.
