Nope me iether. lol I did have a blast fishing there with catch and release... I don't remember what all my ex and I caught but, it was a decent past time away from the horses... Now the trout out of the little Spokane river are tasty, and nice and firm. I think thats what I miss the most about that place on the river... Was being on the river. lol I can live anywhere so long as there is a natural water source.

We are ready! 7 Polish and 2 araucanas are bathed, groomed, and ready to strut their stuff. 1 araucana pullet and a pair of stunning white-crested black Polish are bathed and ready for the fund-raiser auction. Now to start loading up the car. Chicken shows are fun, but a ton of work!

I know chicken rustler already gave some great info on bees but I just wanted to add our experience with having a hive..

We have not actually gotten any honey as of yet .. BUT both hives are in our back yard with one being next to one of my pens. Our bees are italian and very very gentle and don't become agitated very easily. They are good girls

Mason bees were available last spring at our feed store as well as the nursery in sumner.. And the honey bees don't do a ton of polinating of garden stuff that I noticed.. So I was thinkin of getting masons for our orchard trees

If you are just going to look and not entering chickens into a show it's usually free.

Entering chickens usually costs ~$3/bird and there may be some other nominal fees--an exhibitor fee for example.. It's usually pretty affordable and definitely addicting and fun!
Some shows you also have to be a member of the clubs to purchase sale cages too.. so that is something to consider as well.

February 19 should be the Prairie Hatchers Show at Clark Co. Event Center- a youth only show, I haven't heard a date for Monroe, but it is usually the 3rd weekend in March, then we have Stevenson the 3rd weekend in April. After that, it's time to get ready for summer fairs.

Now, we shouldn't forget shows in our nearby states- MT and ID. The MT show should have Gary Overton judging again this spring, and he is great at explaining my a bird placed where. Very educational. I also really enjoyed the fall Idaho Bird Breeders show, good people, good times. Not sure when spring show times are... I believe MT show is in early May.

I bathed, blow dried, and fluffed 13 chickens last night. I entered 13 silkies, 1 dewlap toulouse (wish I could bring more, space issues in car), and 2 silver appleyard drakes (trying to choose who to keep, not something I'm seriously into showing).

I am bringing some silkie cockerels for sale, and some BQ and PQ pullets- for sale with cockerels.

jbear is the cute blonde with the cute ducks. I'll be the one that can't stand still for more than a few seconds and never seen in the same spot twice

. Something about poultry shows, I can't sit still. I might be listening to lectures on my ipod, but feel free to come say hi. My phone number will be on my sale cage,.. my name is also Jen/Jenni/Jennifer.

One reminder: PLEASE remember biosecurity. Don't wear shoes you wear out in your coop, if you touch a bird wash your hands, etc etc. You know the drill. Be safe to protect the stock at the show and protect your birds at home.


Also, remember the wine auction and auction of QUALITY birds and feel free to bid (and bid high).


Also, for the person asking about chicks, I would expect to see more subadults and adult birds for sale than chicks this time of year.
