I just got back from doing a craft show at North Bend Elementary - all everyone was talking about is the upcoming flood. I hope they're wrong. My home is up high and will never flood, but a lot of the homes in North Bend and Snoqualmie flooded bad in 2006 and again in 2008. In 06, many assumed it was at least a 30, maybe a 100 year storm, so they renovated without lifting their homes higher, but after the 2008 floods, many of the homes did get lifted. I was PTA Treasurer for a while and saw they actually had a catagory in their budget for Flood Relief - whenever there is a flood, all the kids bring in their tooth fairy money to help the flooded families. So many homes flooded in 2008 that the checks the families got were only $2.28! We had a Davis weatherstation in our yard then, we got 18 inches in less than 24 hours! Down in town had half that, and our neighbors halfway down the hill were in the middle. Later that same storm we had a 72 mph wind gust that blew the weather station down the hill - I still have not repaired it.
I need to find a better place to put my chicken tractors, The spot where they are is usually pretty good, but when it squals, the water can stream through nearly everywhere. Is it fine for them to be on large woodchip? I'm thinking of moving them onto the bark by the kids swingset as the water never pools there .... I just need to make a suspension bridge to access it!
Chickielady - I need to head out your direction for some fish and crab, Yum! And Thanks for all the beef tips. Maybe if the weather ever gets nice in the summer I should have a big BBQ here for all who can get here.
Going to research paintball guns now - talked to the neighbor about her chicken hunting, fence climbing dog. Told her he may be coming home with some pretty colored polka-dots if he does not stay out of my backyard. I did not want to spend much on the gun, but Rustler said not to get a cheap one. DS did get straight A's on his report card for the first time in his life, so maybe I can splurge a bit (though he told me he wants one of those beautiful roosters that Illia had posted the other week). He better not accidentally hit a chicken with a paintball while aiming for the dog!
Stay dry everyone.
