OOOO yeah! A banty RIR... yes yessirreee. I take it you are looking to fix yer ladies up with a nice gent. I would love a coupla nice bantam RIR. Do you hatch eggs and sell babies?
How many acres does it take to fulfill all our chicken fantasies? and how many ranch hands? and how many jobs to pay for all the feed?
Good questions Linda....
I better go to bed now with visions of sugar hens dancing in my head....
And get ready for a wild and crazy day of taking care of my aged mother and get my Christmas lights up or forget it this year!

Do you have a RIR roo? It seems to me the RIRs I had year ago were meatier and heftier and just more mellow than the hatchery ones you get now. Anybody else notice this? My little Ruby Ladies I have now are very sweet. But seem to be built more like they were bred with a Leghorn, maybe for better egg laying abilities? I would like a couple of RIR hennies this spring p'raps if you are putting some out. Or if you know where I could find some.
How's yer weather? We are still pretty okay here.

I will have some RIR x Buff Orpington chicks if you want size

My Buff Orp Roo and the leghorn girls throw chicks the size of tanks!

That might be nice, huh? Are the birds pleasant like the Orps? and then they have the laying power of the leghorns?

Hi Russ,
My dad grew up in Craig. Family all over Ketchikan, at least in the old days. As kids, we spent our summers out in Steamboat Bay. Best times of my life. My dad had a seiner, the Janice. You know it? After that, I couldn't live in the city anymore. Grew up in Seattle... well, I never did grow up but you know... but as soon as I realized what was missing in my life back in the early 70s I moved outa town...
Moved to Vashon Island and lived there for 16 years, then came to Arlington with a little time in Monroe. Still nothing beats Alaska. I don't think in my old age now I could live as ruggedly as I would have liked to early on. I loves me my appliances and running water...

Gosh we might know each other. Or maybe know people in common. I lived there in the 60s and 70's, graduated HS in 1979 and left soon thereafter.
My full name is Russell Hornbaker. Grew up across the street from the ferry terminal. Dad "Bill" worked for TEMSCO and Ketchikan Air. Mom "Arlene" worked for the hospital. I agree with you there is no place like it. My dad, bro (Roy), SIL( Tammy), and nephew still live there. Don't know the boat "Janice". I did have a commercial trolling license for a few years.
I was just the opposite. Moved from Ketchikan thinking I never wanted to step off concrete ever again. Lived in Anchorage, downtown Seattle, Capitol Hill, Ballard area for 20 years. Then slowly started moving farther and farther out. Didn't make it too far, just a large lot in Renton, passed through Bellevue and Kirkland on the way. And Yeah what would we do without central heat?

My new avatar is her wayward roo Impy. (Love the name) and title says it all.

No one will put 2 studded tires on my car. Liability issues. So I bought rims and had them mounted. but gotta put them on myself.

Russ- came from a family of mechanics, learned nothing.

That isn't a law as you know but the tire association trying to make more money to get you to buy 4 studded tires.
The IDIOTS tried using that sales line on me and I told them to go play their sales joke on someone else.

BigO tires in Kirkland near Totem Lake will still do it.
Otherwise if you can't find anyone that is a franchise go to an independent.
The liability is a SALES LIE!
There is no such thing.
Independent shops will do it that aren't tied to tire sales.

Costco won't even put on two regular tires they will only do four. I like maximum tread on my tires.
Even if you try to change them around the front wheel drive will eventually eat up one pair.
Or on my rear wheel drive when I have studs on there the ones on front are worn out faster. Costco and common sense doesn't work.
Why should I throw away perfectly good tires that weren't being used when the studs were on? Corporate idiots!

Glad to hear someone is visiting my hometown today. i miss the lighting. Hope you got kettle korn or pears at the pear bear booth.
I normally work at those, they are run by Cascade Foothills Farmland Association, my family are members. all volunteers.

hope you enjoyed the snowfall, it sounds like home is being dumped on.

Leavenworth Ski Hill has a tubing hill that tows you up. Its REALLY FUN!

have a safe drive and enjoy the lights
BTW that store with the hot sauces is called Matte of Taste. i like the Honey Mustard Wasabi, really good on apple slices. somehow its not as spicy as it seems, the mustard cancels out the wasabi.
been studying today. really disliking biology. such slow progress on study guides. just finished 1 of 8. and that is for exam 4, not the comprehensive exam taken directly after.

on another note. Parents and Boyfriend report that we have NO WATER at home. Seems our WELL is not WORKING. they have to rough it w/ out water till monday. melting snow to make water, 3 people and 4 dogs... and one of them needed a bath- melted snow bath.
the power went off there and also knocked out internet and cable... electriciy works again but not net or tv. they are watching movies..... Makes me appreciate my dorm a little, showers, internet, tv.....

i had a random dream last night that i had another hen show up with another batch of chicks.... i think that was a Nightmare...... lol. thankfully i haven't heard of that happening again.....
