Jen Just lay a plank up onto it and secure the top end with a few screws. They will love it. I use to get those for our pygmy's.

oooohhh I know.. but it is SO BIG!! I mean, it's taller than the fence... it's a ginourmous goat eating spool I swear!!! I JUST got the redneck cherry picker truck moved out of the front yard that had been there for a year!! now there's a huge spool.. *sigh* it looks kinda funny I have to admit. like it belonged to a giant. My friend did say he was going to get a couple smaller ones for leaping onto. I know they will like it... it's just so large. I would still like to rehome it and use smaller ones--similar to the ones they have already...

I saw plans/directions once for turning a spool into a mini chicken house. Cut a door into the center of the spool so that becomes the little house and run wire around the outer edge of the spool with a gate. I did it with a smaller spool. A great place for a mom and her chicks to keep them safe and protected. Need also to cover the center of the spool to keep out weather.
Hope this description works.

There is a good sized spool at the Pacific county Fairgrounds, someone mounted it on a log stump, and encircled wire around it, and cut a few holes here and there, then roofed the top...it is now a fantastic quail or bantam chicken coop..it is sectioned in two by wire so sometimes they have rabbits on one side, chickens on the other.
The stump it sits on raises the spool to eye level, almost too high for little kids to see it.
In the center of the spool is the nest "box" which has alot of room in it !
A cartoon "mouse" type door leads out to the big part of the spool..and a door was framed on the outside of the spool and then the whole outside was stapled with poultry wire.
It looks alot like a tree house with a coop inside, very cool !
If I had one, that is what I would do with it.

Geez, if I had read further I woulda seen this and not hadda repeat things. Got excited and hadda share...

Those are neat, my mother would love that. There is someone here local that welds old rusty (or it gets rusty later) "Yard art". I just bought her a "cat" that has a head that is a claw hammer, whiskers nails, feet are bolts, body is a big sledge hammer thingy.

Why am I telling you this? Maybe you could make some of these bells with a chicken cut out, or anything else. Make up a few...Isn't there a "for sale" section on BYC? Try it. Craig's List? Christmas Bazzars? Anything to help you make a few bucks. I paid $54 for the yard cat I bought my mother and you know it is made from junk the guy found at yard sales or etc. Maybe something like that would help get you through. Just an idea. You could make yard art of your own for your area's bazzars and farmer's markets, etc.

Wishing you the very best.

So now I am back home. Absolutely exhausted, but had an absolute ball at the vet's office. I will be working at the front desk, paperwork and people. I will walk dogs, feed critters, and do some cleaning in the back. Long term, I will get to help with some procedures and do other fun stuff in the back. I am very excited. Unfortunately, today there were 3 euthanasias...one of which were some friends of mine. I started crying. The vet made the comment what gentleman Kujo always was. He was 16 yo weiner dog. But, there were puppies that came in and kitties that I got to pet. The clinic has 3 clinic kitties and 2 clinic dogs. I was working on the computer on a client's file, and CC or DO would come and sit in my lap. I really enjoyed it.

thank you for asking.

Which one are you working at? That's my dream job, too!

I am working at Alpine Vet - the one across from the bowling alley. I have always wanted to do this. I am a bit afraid of getting bit by someone...just got to be careful. Did you hear that Carol Downing is really sick? I think that is just awful.

The only thing that bothers me at this time is tht I have to work Saturdays and my kids in the summer have been swim meet tournaments on Saturdays and I will have to miss most of them. DH is not helpful at all with this. He won't go and participate...so I am very sad. I am going to see if I can get someone to film the events for me so I can watch it later. My 15 yo DS and DD swim. DD it is still pretty much still a social event, byt DS is really-really good. His best strokes are the butterfly and freestyle. So I am sad I will be missing these. I hope to get to some though.

HELLOOOOOOO WASHINGTON!!!!!

I know this isn't the place to post this but I thought that I would try here first so that if anyone in Washington is interested that you folks would have first crack.

I would like to downsize a little and have 5 Lav. AM's from Schaffer and Blehm that are looking for a new home. They are 8 mos old and 2 of them have just started laying. Beautiful birds. I will post them over in the auction forum later today, but thought it would be good to post it here too.
Please email as my PM inbox is nearing very full if interested.
Thanks!

Wishing everyone a very happy day!

Did anyone else experience a crazy thunderstorm, AGAIN, last night?

It was near midnight, (or was indeed midnight) I was on the computer, doing some work, and suddenly a blinding flash comes up from the window. . . . It spooked me good, and so, as fast as I could, I saved my work, turned off the computer, turned out the lights, and went to bed. . . . Those were some LOUD strikes last night. Not much though. . . Counted only 3, then after 10 minutes of nothing but heavy rain I fell asleep.

I sold this one for $70.00. That is for the bell, the post mount bracket and the sun. Yes I can make them with a chicken. Maybe we could get RonB to post a pic of the chicken I made him. I can also do yard / garden signs. I have also also made memorial plaques for police K-9. I was also very honored when I was asked to make a memorial plaque for some friends infant grand son. They had bought several pieces of my work and ask if I would do that. I felt very honored that some one thought my work was good enough for something so special.
