My gosh this is absolutely crazy funny. I think maybe you and I had talked about this (maybe?) before a little. You graduated with Travis, so you are 4 years behind me? What was your maiden name? Where did you llive? Would you have been the same grade as Letha Hunter? She is over in Pullman (If I remember correctly) and is a vet tech to a horse surgeon.

OH, remember Christianson's or Belsby's or Brewster's....they all ran cows or had a ranch near me where I grew up, I grew up approx 6 miles up the Twisp River Rd. I helped them move cows in the spring and fall. I never had the "priveledge" of pulling calves, but have heard stories. The closest I came to this was when my "pet" milk cow Gertie had her calf. I taught Gertie the Gurnsey to bow. She bowed during the 49er parade. Always a good trait in a milk cow...

I will have to see if I have a photo. I knew the person who had the camel too...just can't remember the name...not enough coffee yet.

Travis is now in Yakima and is married and has a little boy who just turned 5...my nephew's name is Lex and he is so cute.

Well Jen, I am still half asleep.....but this is so cool. I will have to tell Travis.

Yes, I do know Lethea!! I didn't graduate with her--she was ahead of me, by 2 or 3 years I think? And she worked for Dan before me... BUT, I DID go to tech school with her.. lol! My maiden name is Maillie, and I lived in Carlton on Gold Creek. I bet you know Dugans (I think that's their last name--not her maiden name.. I can't think of it, but she grew up on Twisp River--I THINK at the Ranch) .. gosh, it's bugging me that I can't think of her first name either right now. ** oh oh oh--it's Jennifer. (duh!!! lol!!)** I can't remember the camel lady's name either, I think it is Sandy. They lived up by Sun Mountain and the camels name was Clyde. I used to help the Crevelings move their cows--but that was mid-Valley area. Move 'em from Gold Creek to French Creek. Loved doing that, and it's some of my best memories--riding my horse up in the hills, whistling and calling to the cattle. Pulling calves is gross. hard, messy messy messy. But satisfying when it all goes right!

I think I remember your cow too--bowing IS a good skill for a milk cow, you never know when she'll need to use her charms.

We used to go to the parade every year for a long time. Would love to see a picture of Gertie the Bowing Cow! I saw Travis and met his wife and son at our 20 yr reunion. Lex is adorable! he was only 2 or something though when I met him, but he is very cute.

You are way too nice. You should make a deal. A horse for the guineas. LOL I keep a negotiation list!

Did you read the story of DH and my Dad's horse ? LOL!!!!!!!!!!
In this case it might be a draw which he hates more, a horse or the guineas !
I think the Guineas as they make so much racket !
Did you son make it home OK ?

Ya, at 6:30 am! He was supposed to work today and when he left last nite I reminded him about work and he said he should be home around 10pm. Then never heard another word til this morning. Came waltzing in like it was no big deal. They just don't get it! He has a learning disability but calling me should have been a no brainer. He's never done this before. DH flew down to Cali this morning for a week and looking forward to some me time. I get to do whatever I want and not feel guilty!

Horned owls? Eagles?

I have to laugh, because we had someone walk in last week--no appt, no phone call to see if we would do what she wanted... she had a ---- POSSOM!! I didn't even want to touch it. She yawned and her mouth opened up and her HEAD DISAPPEARED. Pac-possom. All I saw was teeth.. ala ferret. Actually ended up being a very sweet .. creature, and very very soft at which I was surprised. I hadn't really realized Possoms came as living things...

LOL - luckily, our clinic has a no opposum, racoon, or otherwise icky creature of the night policy! The first Great Horned Owl I ever saw was in the middle of the night, this guy comes up and rings the doorbell, and when I went up all I could see were these two huge yellow eyes staring at me through the door!

The idiot hit it with his car and stunned it enough that he was able to go pick it up, and he DROVE to us with the thing perched on his hand, with only an old t shirt covering his hand!! By the time I got a hold of it, it was PO'd!!! LOL
Had a really cool experience with a bald eagle earlier this year that had been injured in a territorial fight (good sam saw the whole thing) and the police brought him in - he was none too pleased either. We were able to get a hold of the director of the Audobon Society's wildlife rehab center, she came in and did her initial assesment/treatment in our clinic, so I was able to assist her and restrain him - SO COOL!!

And yes, the veterinarian sitting down in the 2nd pic is restraining the eagles head under the towel! LOL I had my hands full with his talons!

what a beautiful bird. wow. Talk about rip your face off...he could in a heartbeat.

Okay, now I want to run home and check my year books for Jennifer Dugan. LOL..does Jennifer sound similar

Which ranch did she off of Twisp River was she on? There was the at the end of PoorMan Creek. There was the Big Buck Ranch. Brewster's Ranch was also up there and so is Christiansons. I do believe that Karla Christianson is running their ranch now. And, more craziness....my best friend from 5th grade through graduation was Karen Creveling. Her dad was Dewade. I helped them move cows a couple of times, yes, Gold Greek to French Creek. I remember a Clyde the Camel, wasn't thinking up by Sun Mountain, was thinking somewhere on Balke Hill....but my mind gets things all messed up at times. Maybe I just remember hearing about him. Funny that you and Letha went to Tech school together.

I will look for Gertie the Gurnsey's bowing photo. the one I have is when she was a heifer.

OH MY--- I used to ride ALL the time with Karen(and her horse Herc)!! She was super fun to hang out with--very funny sense of humor. I have never looked at a 'farm crossing' sign the same again because of her--- she used to say.. "really, a whole farm picking itself up and crossing the road??" hahaahah! I wonder if you were ever on any of the same drives?? wouldn't that be a hoot. Seems like there used to be other friends along too at times. Bet you were one of 'em! Remember David? heehee Karen used to call him O Great One. lol
I can't remember Jennifer's maiden name--I believe that Dugan is her married name... I might have that wrong though. I think it was Big Buck Ranch?? anyway.. I don't remember the Christiansons ranch or the Brewster Ranch. And Clyde could well have lived up Balki hill.. lol! What's the canyon kinda behind Sun Mt Lodge?? Looking up the valley? I 'thought' that's where they lived. maybe not.. faulty memory these days!!
roll.png

lol~got bit today .. only because I was dumb enough to try and pill a half feral young cat.. silly me. So you used to do rescue?? That does require a periodic break--good for you though for doing it!!!
