I wouldn't live anywhere else, and I've lived a number of different places. I'll admit the short days in winter do get me down.

I grew up in The Dalles OR. right on the big creek (Columbia). The Dalles is right on the east foot hills so green and trees were not far away. Even though I can remember summers with a week of 100*+ temps I still miss it. I also remember some winters with 5+ feet of snow but that doesn't happen often. I still miss it over there. I have been here in the swamp for almost 30 years and I still ain't got my webbed feet !!!!!

I check what direction the wind is blowing. If it's from the north, it's going to be clear. If it's from the south, it's going to be clouds.

I agree I just look to the west south west and know that what I see will be here in 30 minutes to 2 hours.

I remember our first summer here, summer of '92. We arrived in Feb, there was a little rain and by March the rain stopped. I asked the guys that were building our house when the rain comes? They said usually now. Well, it never came and not a drop of rain all summer and nice and warm but mild. I remember thinking this was perfect, but 19 years later still waiting for another summer like that first one! LOL I though weather cycles ran shorter than every 20 years. Well, maybe this summer. Thats what I say every year!

I grew up in Georgia, and it gets about the same rain per year as here in Seattle. We just get it at once, like 8 inches overnight sometimes. It almost never snows there, if it does it is very light. It is very hot and humid there. Seattle is very mild, even the winters here are mild generally. I miss the swamp for fishing and exploring, thers nothing liek that here in the northwest but the rainforests here are very nice.

I have not seen the bigfoot although I did look one time but he must have been asleep or hiding. It doesnt flood here in the Seattle area but it does in teh surrounding areas, back home if I dig a 3 feet hole I got a foot of water in the bottom, and mosquitoes would breed in it. At high tide and heavy rain it would flood many streets.

Seattle has no snakes, no mosquitoes or gnats (compared to what I was used to you have none here), very few biting things period, eastern washington has some snakes, maybe 2 poisonous ones? We had like 4 or 5 poisonous snakes and several spiders. Theres one or two bad spiders here in SEA but I havent seen them. Overall this isnt a bad place weather wise. Better than 102 degree temps with 100 percent humidity and being tore up my the gnats and mosquitoes, horseflies, deerflies, and other no seeums like redbugs (chiggers).

I was thinking to myself this morning on my drive home, just how beautiful a place we live in! And then I started to wonder, just how many people notice there suroundings when they are driving to and from their destinations? How many people just drive around with blinders on, completely unaware of this beautiful world around them.

Everything is absolutely stunning, wrapped in a 1/2 inch of frost, shimmering in the sunlight. Amazing what most people miss and or take for granted...

You have been through the more "desert" areas. We have lots of trees and it is absolutely beautiful. Go to the Methow Valley (bit spendy) but depending on what part...lots of trees, river, creeks, hills.

Okanogan County has probably EVERY type....we have desert, forest (LIght and heavily forested), we even had marshy areas. Lots of lakes - some for boating, some for fishing or both. Conconully - Heavily forested, Large creek, lakes, rock outcroppings. Mazama - heavily forested, river, rocky, great hiking areas, rock out croppings, steep mountains. Salmon Creek - (just outside of Okanogan) heavily forested, large creek, hilly.

Colville and Kettle Falls and that area: I was just told by a client that it reminded them of Alaska - lots of trees.

Come on over and I will take you around or give you maps and send you all over to see all the different beautiful things that Our side of the Mtns has. Ghost towns, wildlife, hiking, fishing, bird watching, camping, old mines, huckleberry picking, ummm what else can I think of.....We are not just desert. If you go down through Wenatchee and are headed to Pullman, I assume you go through Moses Lake area? Very desert area there. At Wenatchee, turn left and head North...this would be my area. Or, I am not sure where you are in regards to the North Cross-State Hiway (Hiway 20)...go over that - absolutely beautiful.

Edited to add critters: I personally have viewed the following critters, over the past years, here in the Okanogan County. Some of these were just a short way out of town and some IN town. Mule deer, white tail deer, bear, Moose, wild turkeys, pheasant, grouse, coyotes. Lots of fun.

I think a lot of people miss things. Sometimes I think about it and start looking around and Im surprised by the views in some places. The mountains are nice to look at. Many have snow I think year round at the tops. Everythings green all year here, and the frost is nice. The landscape here is very nice, even eastern Washington I believe is nice. Ive not been to the middle top part of the state yet but thats about the last place I have to visit. The peninsula is very nice. I tihnk the Hoh rainforest is my favorite place here so far. The air here smells fresh, at least outside the city in most places.

There are over 40 kinds of snakes in Georgia, only six are poisonous. There are no snakes here so I can look around at stuff while Im hiking instead of around me on teh ground so it makes for a better scenic hike. Ive even had snakes try to come in the canoe and boat in the swamp back home. Paddling around snakes sunning in teh trees will fall into the water to get away from you and it sounds like a dripping faucet in teh spring with so many snakes in the trees falling down one after another.

Another thing I like here is the few days it is quite warm or hot you can go to the mountains and cool off. Its like air conditioning. I just drive up and explore the higher altitudes and enjoy the scenery and cool.
