We have both. The grasshoppers come through like a plague in late summer, eating anything & everything. The ducks LOVE them. The crickets chirp all night long.

So it's the crickets in the evening I like that sound.

Also - is it clear over there this evening? Could you or teresa grab an eyeful of stars for me?

I was out closing up coops last night and the stars were very pretty here but it's hard to see a lot of them. Orion is large n bright in the sky!

Jen...will do. I really need a stress reliever tonight...bad day. I really feel like getting drunk tonight and just forgetting...too much stress.

On another note. I will go outside, just for you, and look into the sky and take a "snap-shot" for you. I do believe it is clear tonight....still very cold. It is suppose to change on Wednesday.

On yet another note...I was FINALLY able to get a flock block and my "ladies" just love it. The store has been out everytime I went to go get one.

I fed my birds bananas for the first time today. First I put them in a dish and burried them with oatmeal, sunflower seeda and chopped pears. At first the girls were eating around the bananas, so I pulled them out of the dish and tossed the coated bananas to the back of the run for the Wyandottes. They were loving them, and it took the other girls a few minutes to notice. My New Hampshire walked over, pecked at the banana, and then stood there for a minute with a quizzical look, walked back to the tray with oats and seeds, took another bite, then charged back to the bananas along with the rest of the flock. It did not take them long to devour the bananas, and this time the Wyandottes did not give up their spots, they LOVED those bananas! I wish I had taken a picture. Most of the girls ate neatly, but the NH would shove her face down into the banana and come up with chunks of it all over her head!

They are so funny when they have a "new goody" and are not sure. It is like the old Life Cereal commercials (for those of you old enough to remember)...."You try it. No, you try it. Let Mikey try it, he'll eat anything" ... "Hey, Mikey, he likes it".

Crickets, umm yes !! and my personal favorite: Frogs ! The peepers, and bullfrogs are awesome..singing all night. There were wonderful frogs and toads around the ponds in the river valley around the North eastern, Wa-Idaho area. And MOOSE.
And we have awesome choruses of froggies here...peepers and bullfrogs...when they are gone from an obviously wet and perfect habitat, we have cause to worry.
Frogs are sensitive to chemicals, our waste and climate change.

Good bye Lucky dog. You goofy old fart. We will all miss you terribly.

Lucky disapeared on December 19th. He was 22 years old, and a very special old guy. He was quite litterally a $10,000 dog, and we will never be able to replace him, or even come close for that matter. What made him a $10,000 dog??? The vet bills did. Lucky loved to live life, he did what he loved, when he wanted to do it. And he LOVED to chase the local wild life. Unfortunately for him, the wildlife he liked to chase were bear, cougar, coyotes, and racoons... He was also torn up at least once by each different animal.

We have been searching for Lucky on foot, by phone, by car, online, every vets office in the two closest towns, every bulliten board, P.A.W.S., and the humane society... He is nowhere to be found. My sister and I are the last ones to agree that he is gone. Poor old boy... He wasn't even really my dog, but I loved him all the same... All I can hope is that where ever he wound up, I hope he went peacefully and without pain. We all knew that his days were numbered, but we all hoped it wouldn't have been so soon.
