hi there everyone!
i was wondering if anyone close to local to me might be interested in our geese? we have a breeding pair of Sebastopols from 2010 spring hatch and two female West of England geese that i am needing to rehome.... I really want them to go all together since they have been raised together but would consider splitting them up if they were all spoken for. We are in eastern WA but would consider meeting partway for gas $.

thanks!

Please everyone keep him in your thoughts and prayers!

T-Hi,

I looked at kelp meal at a feed and seed and it was more than 50 dollars a bag at the place I looked at it. I would have thought it would be cheaper than that but I guess not.

Maybe someone in forensics started the maggot bucket idea. I have heard of it before but never seen it in use. I doubt Id use it unless I was way out in the woods, and I think that it would draw predators looking for handouts. I have an aversion to few things, but roaches and maggots and those big fat blowflies are the ones I do have. Cant stand them.

I hear some people have compost piles for earthworms to feed to their chickens. They use table scraps, also to feed fish like tilapia and catfish. Basically the circle method was to use the table scraps for compost and feed for the animals, then the compost made worms to feed the fish, the fish ate the worms and made nitrogen for the duckweed in the water, the duckweed and fish remains fed the chickens (duckweed is supposedly high in protein). Then the chicken manure was used for fertilizer to make the vegetables for table scraps. Of course the whole thing is supplemented here and there with storebbought and things like that. Theres a fast growing blue tilapia that can withstand colder water that would work up here. I have yet to try the tilapia as I have my tank space full of wild type xiphophorus livebearers (wild swords).

Year round would be a big challenge I'm sure. I would definitely have to get a different vehicle since the Prius is a little too lightweight for slippery conditions. I was actually thinking about you on my drive down here Chickielady, wondering how far you were from this area. Weather down here can be wild I know - some pretty blustery days on the coast!

I think Illia gets blasted with the worst weather too.
The wetest part of the state anyway.
Right now, I think everyone is getting blasted.
Some folks down south clear into Georgia are getting snow!

Thats about the price I pay for the kelp but a 50# bag lasts a looong time. It's the cheapest way to buy it. If you bought it in smaller amounts you'd pay a lot more than a dollar a lb. I like the idea of growing your own bugs but think the smell would be yucky.
