No new snow here yet either. It's warming up a lot also. So what's here is dripping. Phhoooeyy... And what we re supposed to get tonight will be rained on tomorrow morning so sheesh! I guess if I'm going to enjoy it, I will be taking late night walks.
It's only January so maybe we will still get more. Only trouble with that is, by now, I am getting to the end of my snow pleasure and ready to get my yard cleaned up and the garden back in shape. Oh well, I am NOT in charge.

We've had cold overcast skies all day today until just now it is beginning to snow again.

Making gluten-free pizza tonight!!!

Chickielady, sorry, I don't know of any scratch pizza recipes. I use Bob's Red Mill pre-done pizza crust because to my surprise it is actually really, really good, and Banana Bread - Love it, but no one else here cares for it, so I've yet to try a recipe.

Is there anything wrong with feeding them dry cat food? Maybe soaked in milk?

Well, thats what I've been trying to find out. I had asked a while back and also on other threads if anyone has fed dry dog food and haven't heard if anyone has actually done it yet.

I would prolly stick with cat food--dry or canned, 'cause it's higher in protein.. Dry food is going to have more carbs, the canned has more protein.... If you soak dry food in milk--whole milk would be the yummiest I would imagine? But you aren't meaning for their entire diet right? just as treat or as extra? Small kibble cat food wouldn't be a problem I don't think--as long as it's scattered? Mine like dry kitten food--I put it in the duck pool for treats on occasion and like right now, with it being so cold, I give them canned kitten food pretty regularly. When you do the flax and rice bran--how are you feeding it? And the kelp you get, is the same for feeding as for making fertilizer? Where is Wilco? Since I am not far from Puyallup, I would totally be happy to pick some up for you, and bring it out here to Fircrest? Save you a few miles anyway:)

I caught on, but not everyone is going to be well versed in Van Morrison lyrics so it's no wonder you put a scare in folks!

hahaha~I am so glad I am not the only one.. Big intake of breath... then.. 'oh, must be a song!!' lol!

Yesterday we had some snow that stuck, right now it is still snowing, and snowing hard but with tiny flakes. It is sticking.

Maybe I'll try some soaked dry cat food if the fertilzer supply house doesn't have fish meal. Usuallt when I buy the organic fertilizer ingredients they are pure, no additives. probably not human food grade but fine for the animals. I had just read about the rice bran for the chickens so havn't tried it on the chickens yet. It's high in fat and great for coats (horses) so assume it would help with feathers and underweight chickens that need a boost. The kelp and flax (you can get that in 50# sacks also at the feed store. Dells has it sometimes but last time I had to order it) I usually add about 1/4 cup of either or bothe to a 20 to 30 lb feeder. I'm not very scientific about it but you don't need much kelp. If I used the rice bran I would start with 1 cup for the same size feeders. I know how to get to Wilco but can't remember streets. I do know I take river road to Meridian and make a left. Go over the train trussles and make a left on that main street you come to after you pass the freeway entrances. Go down a ways and it's on the left. it's in with a bunch of baby diarrhea yellow colored industrial buildings. Easy to miss cause they have a small sign. Thanks for the offer of picking it up but I need to make a run over there and Wilbur Ellis anyway to get all my fertilizer for the year and it's a truck full!

The starter for the moonshine cake is fruit cocktail and suger that sits out for a week then every 7 days you are adding more fruit and sugar like peaches and pineapple marachino cherries. Does your starter sound like that? There is no flour or anything else added until you make the cake

I read that pruning shears will work. I am planning to try it this spring. DH has always done the dirty deed in the past. But I need to quit being a wuss, and do it. I am afraid that I won't have the strength to get the knife through the neck bones. We do give the knife a very good sharp edge before we start.

I hang mine from a tree by one leg grab its head, say a few works of thanks and just cut the head off with Buck knife then quickly walk away.

We have a traffic cone that we put the victim in before doing the deed. This keeps the blood splatter down to almost nothing. Everything going into a 5 gallon bucket, and then is buried in the garden. That spot is then covered with bricks for quite awhile. We are very careful with the waste, because of the dogs. DS is able to pick up old traffic cones at work. The cones come in different sizes.
