LOVE these pics - I was in the photography business for over 30 years and worked for the Richards family of Richards photography who documented so much of Tacoma's earliest history. When the studio closed for good 20 or so years ago, thousands of negatives and photos were donated to the Main Branch of the Tacoma Public Library for their archives.

There isn't a Tacoma Poultry Association anymore is there? And I think it's fabulous, not only that Leona Schultz dressed to the nines for her photo with her champion cockerel, but that it was newsworthy enough to describe her outfit, much like they used to describe brides dresses during wedding announcements!

What a fun post!

Ok I have 3, 4'x8' pallets... I am trying my darndest to figure out how to put them together to have a long, semi-tall, open front coop for the next flock... Maby I should get some pictures... I already have a pre-made pre-shingled roof, just trying to get my head completely out of this stress induced fog... And back on life and work. Must keep busy... Ive got all the lumber I need to build a monster coop "if I wanted" just not enough concentration, or hands to get it done... Now if Chloe was only a few years older, she could help me out! lol

I have two black Ameraucanas currently for sale, both hens, but sorry - No other Am's hatched out yet.

The only problem with my trip is that I am not headed through the Aberdeen route, far as I know (but I may be wrong) and we wouldn't have time for a little sit down and chat.

Chickielady - I'm trying to get everything prepared as fast as I can with the rabbits, but no luck just yet. As for the pellets, we too have some plastic buckets they may fit in. We've hauled manure and goats and geese and all in the car, but on this trip we're stuffing a puppy in an unknown sized crate in there as well as some Jersey Giants in a small cat crate.

i tried to pm you.. am having stupid computer problems.. irgh

If there's a run to this area, I'd like to also get a back of Poultry Special and a bale of straw for my gf who is not a regular BYC'er. She has a coop of 6 hens in Tacoma, and one of them is "ours". Which doesn't mean much except I picked her out to be mine so I get eggs. I get the girls special treats sometimes. Do we pre-pay Scott to get an order on his truck?

Edited because I meant straw and now after seeing other's post, we may rethink the straw after all. My gf is thinking she may not need that much. But we definitely would like to try at least one bag of Poultry Special!

Ok thanks Illia! What are you asking for the two pullets? I'm a ditz and cant remember the prices you told me months ago. lol

here he/she is !!

another much poorer steamy shot...
now, no more pips.
Maybe, if one a day hatches, or two a day, it would be from the eggs stored over 60 degrees for the few days T gathered them ?
That is the only explaination I can think of.
But seriously, I was opening the door and adding water and the eggs were still turning...when I saw the pip ! Hope others didn't shrink wrap........ and the 80% humidity as a result of this hatch may have drowned a few !
Keep the fingers crossed.
Well, at least Illia is getting out and about and off the Farm for a while !!

I think that I will confirm at 6 bags of layer in Pacific, and no straw. The straw was not what I had been hoping for. The bales are standard size. I was hoping for compressed bales that are about half the size of a regular bale. I think I now have enough straw for years. I may just try the straw bale type raised bed this year.

Illia there is a woman out here who has repeatedly posted free Blue Jersey Giants on the bulletin board at our grocery...her last post was a Rooster free...
I will hold a pair of rabbits unrelated for you if you like.
I have 2 litters here.
Line breeding for buns is OK as long as it is Mother/son, Father/daughter but never brother to sister.

So, 2 does and 1 buck ?
And I will continue the smart pellet savings for you.
Now, I have to save more smart pills today...(about 1-5 gallon bucket every other day) on 15 gallons so far....
and I have to make some sort of brooder for this one baby duck!
Before the rest go into lockdown on Monday...unless they are all going to hatch
