Wow, what kind of hoops and paperwork did you have to do to get him? You will have to definitely post photos...I love mastiffs. What is the difference between "mastiff" and Boerboel mastiff? is Boerboel the breeder or line?

Boerboels are a breed of mastiff. There are English Mastiffs, Bull Mastiffs, etc.

Boerboels are a South African Mastiff. Here's an example of one, one who infact is directly related to our pup.

I honestly don't know the hoops, my mom is the one doing the purchasing. She's been through it before though, although on the selling end, not the receiving end.

I love them. A dog the same size as me. My aunt had a female brindle mastiff and she was 260lbs. The docs said she was overweight but she didn't have any loose skin on her and she lived to 12 years old....these large dogs are lucky to live to 8. Most live to 6.

I thought she was buying the pup from fdnick ?
Scott at Patriot Farm where we get our feed has an English brindle female, and an english fawn male mastiff...the male's head is half as big as me.
He is the biggest baby too !
Boy do those dogs stink, hard to get them into the bath tub.
The english fawn sure looks like the south american dogs.

Yeah that's one downside to all of the giant breeds--very short lifespans.

My Borzoi only lived to be 5 and his dam was 9 when she passed.

Any of you know of a Maremma Sheepdog breeder?

Beautiful dogs they are! I'd love to get a Dogo myself or a Thai Ridgeback but that may be awhile as I keep getting those poor pups on deathrow instead

Oh, trust me...if Chloe were a few years older...she probably would not be helping you build a coop. You would get a lot of eye-rolling and heavy sighs and "whatever" or "K" comments. Oh, wait....that is my 17 yo DS and my 15 yo DS....maybe yours won't do it. Although the boys do a good job when there is something on the other end of it that they want.

Well at least if she were a few years older then I wouldn't have to wait until she naps to get ANYTHING done!

I am so unbelievably frustrated right now that I just want to break something!

She's cranky, I'm cranky, all I can do is housework until she goes down. And the housework is all redy done. Did I mention I am frustrated and cranky!!! I at least want to move the scrap wood pile so my driveway is clear!

I'm so grumpy that even my birds dont make me smile... I really don't like days like this.

So if I seem like an extra big grump today, please nobody take it personally.

It's probably better if I just lurk today.

Had a couple Dogo crosses before - Amazing dogs!! Also met some purebreds, too.

Rare Feathers - fdnick doesn't breed them anymore.

Dogos reputations scare me. Supposed to be more violent than pitbulls and the good ones have been bred in Latin america where there are no laws against dog fighting.

I do like the Rhodesian Ridgebacks....I would like one but I am allergic to most breeds now.

Except that they're bred for hog hunting, not dog fighting though, and they have been specifically bred to be VERY loyal to the family. Dogos are my favorite of all the "bully" breeds. You gotta remember, there's a lot of Great Dane in there, a breed notoriously known for its doofy, friendly temperament.

Any dog who has a history of being fought is not fought because it is human aggressive or dog aggressive, it is fought because it is LOYAL to people.

If people fought dogs that were truly more dangerous, they'd use Kangals and Akitas. But they don't, because they themselves as handlers would need to have a lot of control, and still end up in the possibility of being mauled by their own dog. Bully breeds like Pitbulls are put to fight because they'll do anything their owner asks them to.
