Have you ever heard of a bird hatching without a tail besides the rumpless Araucana?

Yup. Feathersite even had a page on that. It is a sport that can pop up in almost any breed.

Disfigured and bent breasts are often caused by improper sleeping/perching arrangements and growth. Now, I'm used to this happening to large and slow growing breeds not having the proper perch, space to run around in, or diet, but as for Welsummers or even the latest - A Silkie cross I once culled, I'm not sure. . . Neither of those are large breeds, so who knows, perhaps an injury or trauma that happened earlier in life?

Yes very nice, I was getting try of watching reruns of 'Dukes of Hazard'.

We have found several we like, but we have not popped on one yet. It is hard to tell what the land really looks like when we all we see is a few photos and driving out there to look is out of the question. We have thought about buying a less acreage, build a small house little bigger then CL's (we have 6 in the family). Being there it will be easier drive around to look at land and find what we want. We talk about renting but we think it we be hard to find a place that would allow 2 dogs, 20 chickens, 16' stock trailer, 12' popup camper, 2 non running 70 Pontiac, our van, maybe a Suburban and maybe a school bus.

I plan on using the school bus as a U-Haul

*Grace* , you just let me know if you would like some of this Amish Starter.. it's getting ready to be divided again..sitting on the counter pulsing like an alien.... I would love to meet up!!

I had a dream the dogs came back. jeeze. I am traumatized by the Wolf dog.

*BNF* --I can't wait to see where you guys settle. There are so many areas to choose from

When my family first moved to Washington (I was 4) we bought property outside of Tonasket... got there in the fall, built a 'shelter', that we lived in while the real house was being built. The 'shelter'--it got turned into the chicken coop later! lol!!

*Haller*--did you see to contact Sadie about that beautiful French Door?? That would be perfect for your house!
big_smile.png

I loved all the pictures guys! *Heather*.. man.. I miss EW. Hope you are having a good morning, and feeling well and energetic!

*CL* --pretty birds and what a great day on the water

ByNature--do you trim your own goats hooves?? I have been, how do I know I am doing it right? I trim to fresh clean hoof following the shape, clip off those pointy ends.. and that's about all the girls need.. is that right? Are they like horse hooves where you have to worry about angle and stuff???

Anyone else want to start a kefir culture, get a BIG 1 gallon glass jar (or 2) and PM me...the birds LOVE the whey protein I strain off every few days unless I am baking.
It can be used for sourdough, or in place of ricotta, cottage cheese like or press to make firmer cheese, and works great in place of buttermilk.
It is amazing stuff, booklet and recipes included.

OK, we did not get any fish yesterday, but was a fun trip all the same. I do believe I have a sun burn chin to forehead where my stocking cap was
lol.png
Tomatoes in the gro-light area in the warm hatching room are 3 " tall, and 2 squash popped up today...both small incubators going and a red light on the babies in the brooder keep the vegies warm.
I have to get the Sportsman going today...and maybe download a booklet on instructions...and it is bread baking day and I am avoiding buckwheat...I do think I have a gluten reaction to buckwheat just the same as wheat.
I have been sick for a week and a half since the peanut butter cookies...

and they were so good!!
Chickens got them yesterday...

Anyone want kefir PM or call me.

We sold our goats, decided the move would be easier for us and less stressful on them. When we get settle well want to get some Nigerian Dwarf and maybe some Toggenburgs, after a year or so we will get some more Kiko's.

But yes I did trim them. You want to make sure that you do not cut to much off. Sometimes I just cut the curl off and sometime I will need to cut more off. Just dig all the dirt and organic stuff out and trim to the pad. I do trim to make the angle look like a little elf shoe. I will see if I can find a photo.

Found a photo, not the one I wanted but it should help.

Speaking of hooves, I have about 64 wee hooves to get trimmed in the next few weeks. .. a few at a time is the bestest way, well unless you have a raft of kids catching the goaties to get them trimmed up. By the time I get them wrestled into the stanchion, only a few and I am pooped ..
