yes I believe it would be the same dawn..
I have two eggs waiting for an incubator--soon soon! I am at the point to either let Dawn have them or stick them under one of my silkies who refuses to unbrood.
wink.png
but I would be super happy to donate them to you, if you can pick them up like tomorrow. I am at work 8-6 in Fircrest. I am probably bringing the serama eggs to Dawn tomorrow too.. ? dawn are you here?? She was going to email/PM me and let me know for sure. If she doesn't want those Serama's now, I need to sell those eggs too... anyone anyone? lol!

I have 5 due to hatch on the 11th and 2 due on the 17th...
(providing nothing goes awry)
I would be happy to trade extra roos for any nice typey hens!

either mille or mottled.

Well shoot...what variety of seramas??

Aww, so sweet. People used to comment that I looked younger than I was but since my kids became teenagers they don't say that anymore! Being married doesn't help either. I'll be meeting 4H mom soon with some chicks and hopefully Jen too as she works within a half hour from me. Oh BTW Jen, the starter for the Moonshine Cake didn't take, it just got moldy so I'll try it again later.

I wonder if that fruit didn't just need more alcohol...

*Haller*--did you see to contact Sadie about that beautiful French Door?? That would be perfect for your house! big_smile

I was sure I sent both of you PM's yesterday and of course today neither of them is showing as sent. So - Jen, the barn door is yours. You may come to the shop any day you wish, Monday, Tuesday or Wedesday are fine. But if you want to see *me*,
wink.png
you have to come on Tuesday or Wedensday.

Haller, I will save the French door for you if you'd like it. You just need to pick it up at the shop. We're open from 11 -6 Monday - Thurs., or 10 - 6 Fridays and Saturdays.
The wine shop is:
Vino Aquino
4417 6th Avenue
Tacoma, WA 98406
(253) 272-5511

I still have Door #1, and Door #3 available if anyone can use 'em. DH says the solid door will not work for him as a pen door. He'd prefer a framed hardward cloth door.

Sorry about your doggy dreams last night Jen, but I'm glad they found their way home in real life. Last night *I* had a dream that I was hatching an assortment of baby chicks! I wonder what that means...

There was murder on the farm last night!

That is awfully sad - sorry to hear Grace. Such pretty little chickens...

jbear, go ahead and give the eggs to dawn. I'll just check back with you for chicks later. I just put eggs in the bator yesterday and try to stagger the hatches for when I have 2 trays full so your eggs might be too old by the time I get them in there.

On the Moonshine starter I already put a 1/2 cup of brandy in it. It was optional but wanted to help it along but didn't seem to help.

Won't need Amish starter for a while. Really want the fruit starter.

No racoons there, that is canine. And coyotes are rather smallish as canine go. They would run in a pack, and they are silent when killing as to not give themselves away.
Racoons have paws with thumbs and look more like a monkey's paw, long toes and no deep nails.
I am using clips on my coop door hasps for the reason that raccoons can open stuff just like a human...and did you see claw maeks on the door ?
A jumping dog would leave hair, claw scratching, etc.
So sorry for your loss !!
That sucks !!!

I am here to help if I can !

First of all I am so sorry that you lost so many chickens last night. I really think that it was a bobcat. Here are some tracks that I found on line. http://www.bear-tracker.com/bobcat.html
There
has been an increase in the bobcat population here in Western Washington. I can remember when no one saw bobcats. But there are sightings even in broad daylight these days. The claws are what made me wonder.

we have a resident bobcat, and DH took a plaster cast of a pawprint, and remember the bobcat is a cat, and no claws will be in his footprint, they retract. Only cat that leaves clawmarks is the cheetah.

And want to tell everyone I have a giant jar of kefir cultures !!!!!!!!!
Milder and yummy like sourdough and effervescent, my bird LOVE the whey that seperates, I keep the curds for me. I also use the bubbly whey for baking, and it gives bread/rolls and bisquits some extra lift and yummy flavor !
Smoothies and baking and cheese can all be made.
I highly recommend it, and we are selling it but for the postage.
Comes with instruction and educational booklet as well as recipes.
See "probiotics for you and your chickens" thread and PM me if you want any !!
I will be back and post the thread link...

Here it is::

I am not kidding!
There is no easier whey (:lol ) to get good protein and probiotics in your animals, cats, dogs, chickens, humans !!

Raccoons tend to just eat the heads off the chickens. They tend to pull the bird through the fencing material and chomp the part they like. There are almost always parts left to find. My sister has problems with the coons up in the Crown Hill neighborhood of Seattle.

Hawks and other birds of prey tend to eat what they can right where they make the kill. They can't fly with the weight of a chicken. The chicken will almost always outweigh the bird of prey. DD used to get so mad at the hawks, because of the mess they left behind.

Coyotes will leave very little but feathers behind, but they do love to talk about their kills. When you hear the coyotes howling they are bragging about and letting the pack know that they have a kill. So big cats will stalk and figure out how to get into penned animals also.

Cougars tend to stalk their prey, so it is unlikely that a cat that big is responsible. But it is possible in Western Washington. I have seen cougar less than a mile from where I live.

Bears will just go slamming through the fencing they don't have to think about it much. They rarely think about stealth and grace. There are a lot of black bears in West Wash these days.

Then there are the domestic dogs. I think that they are the worst predator that any of us face. No matter how cute little fluffy can seem to be, any dog in a pack can kill or harass livestock. But dogs tend to tear through fencing and will leave the bodies. Dogs are rarely hungry and it seems that it is more about the sport of it for them. I also have terriers and
I know that I can't trust any of the nasty little dogs with the birds. The chickens are just too much fun to chase and lick, but then so are kitties.

I trust Puppy with the birds, but that is only after teaching him what will happen if you play "Bowling for Polish Crested chicks". He had a real bad afternoon that day. I will give him credit; he has never looked at the chickens the same way. But I could see that if the nasty little dogs got out of control he might join in just for the fun of it. Puppy is a lousy Komondor. It is just as well, because he is a great dog if you need one that keeps the sofa warm.

Teddie is driving me crazy at the moment.
rant.gif
I think he must have been dropped on his head as a puppy. He is standing outside the dog door, barking one bark at a time.
smack.gif
I think he wants in maybe. The door is open and he can get through it without any problems when he wants to. He wants me to play with him, but that makes the other nasty little dogs a bit cranky. They don't understand how to play the game he plays. I can relate to that. I don't know how to play it for sure either. Now he is going from the dog door to the sliding glass door and back. He is going to drive me crazier than ever.
barnie.gif
I can only hope that he will need a nap soon. It is a very good thing that he is our favorite nasty little dog.
love.gif
At 5lbs he tends to rule the entire house. Even Puppy knows that he is the boss. Of course Miss Gabby doesn't care if he thinks he is the boss. She is the girl, and she will just ignore him.
