I'm in the process of building a 4x8 coop myself. And Ive decided to have the people door along the 8' side. Don't know about you, but I dont own any 8' long rakes. lol So my people door will be about 4' long, that way I can clean the coop out more easily, this should also make it much easier to clean off the poop bored, under the roosts. At least that is the goal...
Congrats on your DH's reinstatement! Even if he is having to commute.
Yes, I'm converting the plans so the people door is on the 8' side too. Right now the plans have a charming little window with a flower box on that wall.
Of course, it's adorable, but I think if we install one of those it will go on the 4' side. I also don't like the "slider" pop or people doors. Give me good old hinged doors please. So if I have my way, the coop will be a combo of all the best things about "The Garden Coop" and "the Playhouse Coop" listed in the coop designs. Now it's just up to my wonderful builder men. I'm stocking up on plenty of beverages and soup/stew making supplies this weekend, so they'll be well fed and hydrated during the building.
I will be helping of course - painting mostly. I'm not so good with the power tools. At least that's what DH believes, the same way I believe he is incapable of separating whites from darks when doing laundry, so I have to do it. We choose our delusions.
Thanks for the congrats - of course right now I feel like I'm exchanging one set of worries for another, meaning I'm worried about his commute and having to learn to drive a forklift, and hoping he keeps his mouth shut and his head down but eventually things should settle in place as they are supposed to. Three more years of employment - that's all we need!
