I'm looking to get a few chicks (pullets) next month and thought I'd post here to see if anyone fairly close will have some before hitting a feed store in Monroe. I'll likely get 6 chicks - 3 to add to my little flock and 3 to initially raise for a friend. I'm thinking Australorp, and Sussex or Plymouth Rock or Red Star or maybe Wyandotte. My friend likes her Leghorns too. We just need some good egg layers and for me something easy to handle (I have a 4 yr old who loves the chickens; her current favorite is a red star we have that is a nice medium size), hopefully not huge (but not bantam) and have some egg laying longevity as we're not good at "turnover after 2 or 3 years." They need to be sexed as we have no use for a rooster. I'm in Duvall (NE of Seattle by about 20 miles), and will likely go watch a little at the chicken show in Monroe next month if someone had something there. We're not interested in showing, but I think my daughter will enjoy seeing all the chickens.
Also, a week or two ago I'd posted about a sick BR pullet I had and thought I'd let you know how that turned out. The pullet improved for a week, then took a turn for the worse again. The lady that I bought her from last month was nice enough to offer to take her back in trade for an extra EE pullet she had so that's the route we went. My other chickens remained very healthy, and the new girl seems quite healthy and is laying very well too.
Thank,
Amy
