Cool, we love snow.
We don't get enough here to really satisfy us. We have had 3 storms so far this year all were about 10 inches each. We usually only get 30 inches all year. Last week our temps were in the low to mid 70 for about a week so all the snow is gone. Even if the place we move to does not get a lot of snow the mountains will.

Kitty litter box is too small, get a mortar tub from Home Depot $8
Then do a bag of playsand (also at Home Depot) and dump it in, and a few big scoops of DE, MIX.
Get a cat pan spoon to sift the poops and crud out of it the birds will kick into it.
And the bestest and cheapest feeders are a 5 gallon bucket, cut a head opening in as shown, the birds cannot beak-kick the feed all over the floor.

This poultry dust can be added to the dust bath as well, it is organically based .

take the top off the bucket...see how they cannot beak-kick the feed out on the floor ?
I have had every kind of feeder and they birds will beak it out all over the floor, but not this way.
With standard comb roosters, put the hole higher and larger..for chicks or youngsters, lower.
I have 5 gallon buckets that fit the birds I have, inside each coop.

Edited to add: I use compressed straw in the nest boxes, it is soft...the birds love it.
These compressed bales look small, but they are COMPRESSED and HEAVY and when you cut the string, they will take over the room!
But you will have plenty and the birds love it.
Each straw is run through rollers that smash it, so it has no hollows like a stiff drinking straw.
Regular straw is stiff, nonabsorbant and the birds cannot really get a nice curvy nest out of it.
This is just what I use.
Everyone has a way~~~

Ha! I am quoting my own self here, but wanted you all to see the inside of this bucket, and how the birds kick feed to the right & left you can see inside on the sides of the bucket::

T-Hi ! Thanks for the Daytona 500 head's up: DH was so bumbed our VCR took a dive

Still no PMs...are sure you PM'd me ?

http://www.westvet.com/collibacilliosis.htm
Anyone want the newest issue of the SPPA bulletin, I have it on Adobe and have to send it to your e-mail..so send your e-mail address...
Teresa, making this solution, keep in a water jug, add 1 Tablsespoon to healthy bird water, add 2 Tablspoons to sick bird's water.
OK, got to band various flavors of baby chicks..be back later !

Yep, I had Pmd you, but I also did Heather....so I believe there were issues and neither of you got the PMs. You had said you had some birds you were interested in selling or find new home for as they did not have the feathers on the feet like you wanted. I just want some friendly hens to add to my group since I have lost some...but now that the infection has reappeared I want to make sure it is taken care of before I re-introduce any more. Thank you for the article. I carry in a milk jug every morning, fresh water to my girls. I will start the bleach water up again to use prophylactically. Per that article, it seems that the bleach solution actually helps with the cocci - also. Am I reading it correctly? Have fun banding babies. I would love to hatch out some chicks....just don't know what I would then do with all of them. It would be fun, though.

my email is: [email protected]

I am posting this here as my PM does not always seems to be working.

I am so tired of snow and cold. I do nothing in the winter. I don't like being cold. Sit in the house wating for spring so that I can garden.

Are you doing the bleach solution in their water ????????????
Yes mice can carry it, and all sorts of nasty stuff...keep feed & waterers up off the ground and locked up at night indoors...bleach solution (2 Tablespoons for sick birds, per gallon) add to a 1 gallon milk jug, then add the Corrid, add keep that jug in the coop to fill your bird's water dispenser.
Hope you get rid of this !!

Terrie: Where did you move from? Yep, that is pretty normal for here.....few mild winters....then a crazy applesauce winter or extremely wet spring that send all the new comers packing. Spokane area got the crazy record snow 2 years ago....Our last crazy bad winter (that sticks in my mind) was '96....crazy applesauce winter.

We moved from Oregon City in April 2009. I grew up in San Diego, though, so the fact that I love the snow makes my family think I am off the deep end.

We go to Colville to get away from the snow.

Thanks. In the summer we don't want to go outside It is hard to force the kids out, even our 4 year old who loves being outside does not want to go out. Since stuff still needs to get done (animals, lawn and garden) it is usually me that suffers the humidity.

The drive is just over 30 miles round trip. What makes it worse for me, is I am partially night blind from an injury to my left eye a few years back... And who else do I have? The only other person in this house is 2. lol I can only take so much child speech. Explaining everything, speaking simply... I need some adult time too.

UHM I hate to break this to ya but I think ya missed my whole twisted humor.

We had stopped the bleach cuz all were doing well. I am going to put them on it and keep them on it. I take a clean jug of water out every morning. Sticky traps are going up today for mice catching. Thanks CL.
