CL : I love the gizmos you have.
I've use your fence idea with the bird netting idea and am building my own.
The hatching in a plastic basket will be used in my hatcher next week for my first duckie.
The plastic tub thing will come next, but I was also thinking of inverting the halloween tubs.
And now there is a water can?
I just got to see it.
And when I'm finally done buildig all these new toys and duck run / coop, I'll show you my oics.
What an enabler!

Where exactly can one buy bird netting? I could really use some.

I have seen bird netting on eBay

So sorry to hear about the tramatic death of your birdie.

It can't be your fault. You did all you knew how to.
Maybe you can kill the paracites by torching down thedirt in the run?
Sprinkle bleach on it afterwards?

just an idea.
I wonder if I should bleach my duckie's water too.
They'll be sparkley clean.

Thank you blueducklings. I have spray bleached down everything that would not stand still. I am hoping this way to easily remove the waste and to have it in a more contained fashion will help. Also, the chlorinated water is for them to drink. I just don't understand why I am having so much problems. My runs and house are clean (by chicken standards). You would have sparkling white duckies if you did their water. LOL. Torching the dirt is an interesting thought. I wonder if that would do anything? Couldn't hurt, right?

OMG, sounds like you need some RED BULL.
Or straight ginseng tea.

LOL! Thanks but Red Bull isn't going to help me right now! But I do drink lots of tea!! I have a HUGE mug of Kombacha tea right now!

My run is approx 8' foot wide x 40' long. I would love to have some. I just don't know when I could get over there to get it. I live on the opposite side of the Mtns from you.

My DH is asking if you live in the Machias area...he was through there this weekend and saw a sign up for chicks for sale. I told him it could have been one of my BYC buddies.

Eagle2026: BEfore you go look, let me check with RFF, she is my neighbor and looks like she may have some.

4312 Sorry to hear about your hen. Also what are you using for feeders? Are they on the ground? If so here are a couple ideas that may help. Find a way to hang the feeders. They should be at about the level of the back of your shortest bird. This will help with little critters. Then go to the dollar store (if ya have one) and find a big plastic funnel to put upside down over the feered with the hanging rope going through the funnel. If ya can't find a funnel a frisbee will work if it is at least as big as the top of the feeder. Drill a hole in the center and put the rope through. They do also make covers that work like the funnel but I have only ever seen one at any of our local feed stores. Also for covering the top of runs I have used regular chicken wire. When I made my first run for the LF I used 1" because that is what I had. When I built the run for the Bantam's I used 2" because it was only abouy 1/2 the $$ of 1" and all I am trying to do is keep them fom flying out and stop ariel attacks. The 2" did sustain an ariel and while the wire was damaged it kept the little peeps safe. I have since put bright ribbon in it because I think the attacker (most likely a red tail) didn't see the wire until it was too late.
