Bees love heather.; both the summer blooming Callunas and the winter blooming Ericas. Heath and Heathers has an ENORMOUS selection. They're down between Shelton and Harstine Island. They also do mail order.

We had a friend build most of it for us. He's an out -of-work home builder. I traded my kids play structure for some of the labor. There is a millwork outlet nearby that I bought the windows and doors at. We had some of the wood left from when we built our house, but I still had to buy a lot more. The price was nearly twice as high as I thought it would be, so I got another job to quiet DH down. Turns out, after the initial shock, he's all into it! 2 of his co-workers have some really nice coops too, so now he has bragging rights!

DH and I only did the finish work. I still need to put in a deadbolt - not that I need to lock the coop, but the door was a reject that I bought for $120 including the frame. The door and the frame came with holes for a doorknob and a dead-bolt. I found some 15 year-old deadbolts from when we changed locks on our old house, so I will install one of those after the snow is gone. Right now I'm running an extension cord through the hole in the door to power a heater (on a thermostat - turns on at 35, off at 45). We did not put power in the building, but the ceiling has so many vents that the coop is quite cold right now. When the snow melts, we are going to drill a holr through the floor to bring in a power cord.

We hired someone to build this one right. We have another garden shed, looks cute, but you can almost push it over with your finger, the floor soaks up the water pooling under it and the walls are wet because there are no eaves on it, it leaks like crazy, and the walls are full of mice because they are not sealed at the bottom. Didn't want to repeat that disaster! I think it may come down in the next wind-storm. This one is solid!

I love all your game birds. They look like living jewelry! My brother used to raise pheasants until a raccoon broke in to his coop that he thought was predator proof.
