I have no issues with the idea of the procedure. I have had metal taken out of my eyes enough times that I can walk the Dr through the job. It is just that no job and no ins pretty much makes it a no deal.

I didn't have insurance either. Mom gave me some money. The cost was about $3500 per eye. I always ask if there is a cash discount for medical/dental things with no insurance. They took 10% off.
For the person who asked how they do it - a tiny cut is made over the cloudy lens and it is then broken up and sucked out. A new lens (like a really thin fancy contact) is then put in there and that's it. You have a couple kinds of drops to put in every day for a couple weeks. The tiny incision heals itself up in just a few days. You don't see it. They say pretty much everybody gets cataracts to some degree as they get older.
I had asked if I could wait until I was on Medicare (because it's free then) but they said no. I was already having trouble reading street signs unless I was pretty close. They were blurry. That's not good. The first thing I noticed was that trees have leaves, they are not just big green blobs!

UGH, been putting off going out to tend to the animals. Soooo yucky. Pouring rain and wind. Maybe be a greenhouse day or start on taxes. Hate, hate doing taxes but by the time I get everything entered and totaled I've done most the work. Can't see getting a tax preparer at that point, all there is left to do is fill in the blanks. Thought I'd invest in Turbo Tax, cost $100 but come to find out you have to buy a new one every year. Might as well pay a tax person if I'm going to do that.

We need to put the politicians on social security retirement and stop giving them raises. We should also cut free medical to illegals and stop giving them social security that they never paid into. They are cutting the wrong programs.
