Oh, also if you look closely the tell tale dorsel stripe down his back is a the difference between a dun and a buckskin. You might also be able to see the dun factor like the spider webbing on his forehead. That horse also has the most amazing tiger striping on his legs in the points. Jean has shown him in the Dun factor class which I believe he has ROM in. I showed him a bit as a yearling and he won every dun factor class he went in. She has also done very well with him in the halter classes. Jean, doesn't he have his ROM in halter too? and some Grands? Sadly I had to sell his mom too. Awesome eye candy. Really miss them.

Hey on the topic of horses... What do you all do for rain scald? My 2yr old filly came to me with rain scald, I have treated with vinager, and antimicrobial shampoos, she still has it. I feel like Im fighting a loosing battle against a fungus... I'm hoping that the temperatures stay warm like they have been, that way I can take her up to Diamond Hill, and use the hot wash rack and dryer... Have any sudgestions before I go through another $80 bottle of shampoo?

Gawd, I don't miss that crap! Living in the dry side has it's benefits--although it's POURING rain now! When I got Huey my little rescue yearling, he was so wormy and his coat was horrid...he had some sort of fungus, too.

I washed him with this: http://www.valleyvet.com/ct_detail.html?pgguid=30e07c5e-7b6a-11d5-a192-00b0d0204ae5

Both
worked well.

Dried him really well and then about a week later, I body-clipped him and washed him again and then kept him blanketed with a rhino turnout sheet until it healed up. He came with it in the spring and never got it again.

In the past when I had another rescue mare--I used this: http://www.cowboymagic.com/products-rain-rot-shampoo.html

So I should leave the lights on during lock down?

I am, it is just a theory, but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense.
Most incubators and brooders have lights, this little on I am using for lockdown, has no light, so it seems a hatching baby would just sleep, and in the process dry out.

I dunno if it makes a difference tho.
Would be a neat experiment if I had a couple empty incubators

If under a broody there is no light.

Well thats what I have. Microtech... Its suposed to be really good stuff, but it hardly did anything the first two times I used it on her... It is driving me nutts! Poor little thing.

But on a brighter note! She is starting to grow out of the clutsy yearling stage! Her feet are looking much better, and she has wonderful ground mannners! she had her first experience with a saddle. granted it was only a pony saddle, but still, she didnt even flinch.

Just gotta get this rain scald taken care of...

My appenzeller spitzhauben eggs came yesterday. One broke, so there are only nine. You'd know one of the AS eggs would break rather then one of the NN eggs. Still, nine should be enough to get a trio or a quad.

My horse had rain scald every spring. I mainly kept it clean and it went away. sure wish I knew why it kept comming back. She liked to stand out in the rain.

I no longer have her. and I miss having a horse
