Hooray! I needed some good news. The past few days have not been great. First it was the sad and frightening news from Japan. That same afternoon a good friend who was Managing Artistic Director of the the theater I've done shows with and where my daughter grew up in Youth Theater, lost his 4 month battle with cancer. Two days later I found out I did NOT get the role of Eleanor of Aquitaine in Lion in Winter that I had gone to callbacks for, but a good friend of mine did. I'm happy for her.

Really.

Then this week we received a letter from Social Security saying they overpaid us and we owe them $2400. DH is contesting that.

And the rain, the blessed rain had halted all work on the coop. DH is going back to work on April 4th which is good news, but would the weather keep them from completing work on my coop? And is wrong for me to feel disappointed that it isn't finished yet?

So. DH just called and said his buddy who has been helping us build, but who has back problems and can only work a few hours at a time knows a young, able bodied carpenter who is out of work and would I be willing to pay him out of my paycheck to have him help finish the coop? OH yeah.

I was SHOCKED that DH would even suggest it. He never wants to pay anyone else to do something that he can do a halfway sloppy job on himself.
A few rain free days like it is today and we should have it complete! Which means the pullets I'm bringing home this weekend won't have to be house chickens for long thank goodness. I have a hutch to keep them in, but I don't have a temporary isolation pen set up yet and I was hoping I could take a little more time on that.

I can see a little clear blue sky now...

watch out, Dana, it just started raining here and may be headed your way ---

I was going to go pull the "keep the doors shut" nails out of the crate that got here yesterday,
but I got wet enough yesterday, thank you !

I love my house chickies -- their friendly little noises are soothing

of course they haven't started clucking yet ... they didn't PEEP for long,
they went to contented murmuring chatter and trill

Yeah, it's gray here. I'm hoping it just doesn't rain tomorrow because they'll start building then. I am really looking forward to hearing chicken AND chick sounds in my house. Along with the cockatiels and all the 4 leggers, it should add to the wonderful cacophony of sound we have here already!

What kind of chicks do you have in your house right now?

ZGOATLADY: Haller is correct --it is on the corner of 99 and 312th. if you are heading north on 99 it is on your left. huge store.. lots of .. stuff. And the big bags of rice? they got it.

Dana, sorry you have been a little down.

I am sorry about your friend. Cancer is the Big Nasty. If wishes was fishes I wish for a cure of it.

Good to hear your coop is on it's way to being done! woot!

oooo what kinda bunnies do you have :hmm I have Flemish Giant, Tan, Mini Lop and Specialize in Shaded Netherlands and English Angoras! (freaking quote won't work for me:/)

After reading all these candle posts I'm thinking I might have to get some of my stuff out

Sadie Sue-Sorry about your friend. Just seems like a lot of people have been affected by deaths lately.
We are now birdie sitting(for a year or more) a very sweet cockatiel that belongs to my neice. Last Dec., her baby was born at 25 wks but is coming home this week. There cannot be any birds in the house for quite a while.
Tweek(the bird) is a terrible beggar! Tried to eat a piece of pizza that she thought I got just for her. My niece probably shared meals with her. Sorry, not happening! I'll share but not at the same time I'm eating. Yuk.

The wheat is in the soy sauce, and possibly the wasabi.
The powdered sugar is also bad, cause it has corn starch in it.

I can eat corn starch, it is the one thickener I can eat and use for gravies, and makes a great clear sauce for sweet N sour or to pour over (mix in water) to thicken chow mein & stir frys...can also have potato starch but it is not great for gravy.

What about Arrow root? Its a great thickener, I prefer to use it over corn starch, as I havnt had any issues with it clumping up like corn starch does.
